Default Growl on startup

2012 3.5. Once in a while I'll have a loud growl when the truck starts up. Not a growl that you'd like to hear, more of a "dying tiger" growl. It lasts about a minute then goes away. Not all the time, just once in a while. I used to think it was a cold thing (used to have to park it outside, but now we have a garage) but cold isn't the issue any more.

Any ideas?

Starter bendix not releasing ring gear after starting?

Just a guess.

In the old days, they were easy to rebuild, don’t know if they still are.

Vacuum pump?

After it stops growling, while in PARK, can you pump the brake pedal and get the growling to start again?

You eliminated the timing chain being the cause?

Haven't tried that yet, but I will.

Would that cause a momentary growl?

Does it sound like this? The first one is the longest one.

Crap.....sounds exactly like the first time he started it up....only mine sometimes lasts a bit longer. So timing chain huh? When I get out of isolation I'll take it into the shop. Kinda glad I got the extended warranty now.
