Goodbye Ecoboost
Some of you have followed the saga with my 2011 F150 Ecoboost. VERY poor MPGs, and endless electronics problems. Well, after 7 months of headaches and heartaches, I think the journey is over.
I just got back from the dealership, where I test drove a truck identical to mine, with the exception that this one is a 5.0.
I took a 60 mile highway trip, and with only 5 miles on the odometer, the truck got 19.4 @ 70mph, and 20.6 @ 65mph.
The very best my EB has ever got was 18.4, and that was on a three hours run where the top speed never exceeded 65mph. Of course I don't know about the electronics, only time will tell. But if those things pop up on this new truck, at least the extended warranty will be there to cover it.....but my gut tells me I'll be far happier with this new truck, than I was with the EB. With all the good reports on the EB, I have to believe that I just got "the bad egg", but it's a very bad feeling to walk towards your "new" truck every day and wonder "What's going to go wrong today?" The little bit that the trade is going to cost me, is well worth it, just for my piece of mind.
The dealership's offer was nearly a straight across trade. They are going to charge me .15 cents per mile on my truck, which I think is very fair, and are transferring my warranty to the new truck, plus, I'm keeping all of my accessories. I'm pulling off all my accessories and will take the this truck in on Tuesday and make the actual trade.
This whole scenario has soured me to the Ecoboost, and while I know there are many out there who are thrilled with theirs, I've not been one of them. For those considering the Ecoboost, I would encourage you insist on an extended test drive, and by all means, look hard at the top end, extended warranty. Had I not had one, these past 7 months would have been very expensive.
Hopefully I'll never have to use my warranty with the new truck, but it's there in case things go wrong.
As I get into this new 5.0, and get some miles on it, I'll report back and give you my insights on the comparison between it and the EB.

After all that you went through, I can't blame you for getting rid of it. That thing was possessed. Good luck with your new truck.
FWIW, my EB has been flawless and I wouldn't trade it for any other truck.

Good deal on the trade! I'm sure that they sensed lemon law in the making. There must have been something amiss with your Ecoboost as I just got 19.6 mpg on an 8 hour highway trip with speeds generally between 65 and 75 mph. Now the next owner of your Ecoboost isn't going to be so lucky. Hopefully they will have checked the Carfax before they buy it and know what they are getting into.

Eco-5.0-Eco again
No doubt you had a bad egg, I hope you have great luck with this one. I was in the same boat with my wife's former Assan Murano, it was the worst turd ever...I mean ever, worse than my Chevy Monzas back in the day!
Good luck Sir...
