Default Goodbye chrome!

Goodbye chrome, it's been nice, hope you find your paradise..Actually come to think of it, It hasn't really been nice. FX4 non appearance packages still come with chrome emblems...WTF? So, when I went to get some more ABS plastic today (BTW, $5 for 3 sq ft of ABS, killer deal) I found that Industrial Plastics in Calgary had an entire row of Plasti-dip with almost every type of it available! Now I'm not much of a dip kinda guy, but I thought I'd give the smoke a try on the F-150 emblems.

Wow.

Looks killer! Identical to the Raptor emblems. About a 90% match to the hyper gray trim on the FX (haven't put the glossifier on yet, that's tomorrow's project, 1-2 coats of it to give it a nice little sheen). Didn't want to go with black, because I hate the all-black emblems. Might as well take them off IMO. Also didn't want to go black/red. That's appearance package territory, no other part of the truck is red. But the smoke on my emblems is about as far as I will go with the dipping, can't stand the guys that go overboard with it. Sorry for the crappy iPhone pics, I will have better DSLR pics once it's all done.

What do you guys think?

(went a bit overboard with masking I think, but the less overspray I have to get off with WD40, the better)

That looks great! Don't think that scheme would fly on a black truck but a silver truck sure looks great with it!

OMFG. Plasti-s**t heaven, right here in Calgary!
Your emblem looks great. IMO, ALL otherwise chromeless black F-150's should have emblems like that.

Haha. Yes, the guy I was talking to there said there was countless guys asking about more colors, they're currently the only shop in town that carries that kind of selection. I'm not a dipper at all, but I did do my mirror reflectors and emblems, but I swear that's where it will end on my truck. I thought about painting my dad's Limited the hot pink Blaze for April fools next year...hahaha!

I tried it last year and didn't really like it...decided I'd either do a Moody overlay or the smoke on the outer part. Just looked like they were faded and oxidized. Maybe it was my method, but I wasn't a fan of it. Worth a shot on your truck though! Can't go wrong, just peel it off!

Industrial Plastics and Paints. They're my new favorite shop! On 1st street off of 58th ave SE.

BTW, we have a cabin out at Sylvan lake, not far from blackfalds!
