Default Good alarms???

I've been wanting to get an alarm, but I can't decide what exactly I want. I think it would be unique to have a talking alarm, but id rather have a good alarm than a unique one. Although I would like to have a different sound effect other than the standard horn sound.

Viper alarms are really good and have a lot of add-ons/features you can add. My car has one, and it is a remote start/2 way alarm. I really like it, and have never had a problem with it. They are a little more expensive then some other ones, but they are many choices you can get to suit your needs.
Also mine came with a unique siren installed under the hood, so the car gives a chirp chirp sounds when I lock and unlock it. Not too sure what you meant by a unique sound, but I would say the Viper is unique since it doesn't use your car/truck horn for anything.

Do what one member did, hook up a train horn with compressor (few threads on that mod). Sure to get attention.

viper is good, but computstar is better. They have more sensors they can add, of course it costs more, so it all depends on how good of an alarm you want.

Have had a Viper 2-way remote start on my truck since I bought it. Also had one on my Ranger. Never had a problem with it.

Viper has SmartStart. You can control your car from your phone. It's pretty nice

Not sure. Search threads for train horn mod. Just remembered a guy saying he hooked his up to alarm so everyone would catch attention and scare the ***** out of perps.

If you do it let us know.

I have both a Viper 5902 and a Compustar alarm. Each on diffrent vehicles. Both have some pluses and minuses. the viper is cool, b/c the remote has an LCD screen, and is really easy to toggle between differnt menus, BUT i cant stand how sensitive the bottons are!!! I've remote started my car accidetnyl more times then i can count! Yes there is a button lock feature on it, BUT then that is a pain when you actually just want to get in your car or remote start it quickly. I do like that they offer a iphone add on that turns your phone into the keyfob

the Compustar is a good unit...the alarm fob is a little larger then i'd like with the protective case on it...but it works very well. Its very tough to accidently hit a button, which is great....but getting certain functions to work are alittle tougher since you have to read the back of the remote or manual and then hit a combination of buttons to put the alarm in that mode. customer support for Compustar (firsttech) is great! I havent had to deal with Viper Customer Support so i cant comment on that though. Which ever remote you end up going with...remember...its 80% install 20% product. Make sure you choose a repitable place that will stand behind the product IF ther eis an issue...remember..these are still just electronics.

You can also use your phone with the compustar and back when I was researchin them there was some problem with the vipers phone system and no installer for viper I found would even instal that model because they were having to many problems with it. There was a lot more sensors a guy can put on the compustar system that viper doesn't even offer. Different compustar models have different remotes, you can see the all on their website.
