Static: I will admit that it is not a bad truck; very well built, just different from what I look for in a truck. Wasn't bashing farm folk. Grew up out in the sticks my self. Just found it interesting that two new days old accounts were bashing the trucks farm capability only hours apart. Thats all.

I think it was a coincidence. But that is interesting.

I used to have an 88 f150, and in reality it would not have been the best farm truck either because it couldn't haul a load. That's expected from a 1/2 ton. But that truck was built like a tank, and would def be able to handle the farm environment better than today's f150. It was probably smart of ford to redesign the f150 away from that ability since anyone who needs a truck that can take abuse was buying 3/4 ton and larger anyway. But the hampering of offroad ability in the name of driving manners (I'm assuming that's the reason anyway), that drives me nuts.

Not exactly sure what you are asking.....but my 2010 2wd did....The only thing I noticed was if you touched the brakes it stopped working......never knew or tried the double tap thing so I don't know that part.....All my 4x4 kick off also when you touch the brakes.....Definitely gonna try the double tap on all now........ Have to read the manuel more!!!

I would agree with that statement.

BTW, my use of this truck involves driving on logging jobs and behind the gate forest roads on a daily basis. Our agency has a large fleet of F150s. Anyone who says that engine braking in 4lo is pointless simply doesn't know what they are talking about. If you are navigating down a 10% grade with a cross ditch in the road every 100 feet, you're going to want some major engine braking.

Having driven this truck off road a lot, I know I would never buy one for myself due to many shortcomings while driving offroad. The main shortcoming is no standard transmission option, which means garbage engine braking even before you get the computer involved stepping on the gas.
Use the brake ? That's what it is there for. Also … What 2017 pickup is available with a manual tranny ?

OK, I wouldn't call those half tons, although my 2002 Ranger Edge 4 dr Supercab Plus is officially listed s a half ton pickup by the DMV.

Neither would I. I can barely even get in a Frontier, it might as well be a Corolla.

Have you tried tow/haul mode? That kicks in the engine braking on a 12 at least.

Have you tried the brake ? It's an automatic transmission. Hold your foot on the brake to keep it from going faster ! WTH ??? With a manual tranny, I get what you are trying to do if it has granny low 1st gear. Like an old hay truck. point it down a row in granny low, get out and throw a few bales on … But it's not !!!
