Default Gears

What would the difference between 4.56 and 4.10 gears be in a 2010 f150 with 35” tires...

I had 4.56 gears installed in my 2014 last week. The link below is what I used to see the differences of gears and helped a ton.

This one is good too: http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html

I'm no expert myself but another guy here, or maybe another forum, put in 4.56 with 35s and he regrets it. Most say 4.10 is more appropriate. I read that the Raptors have 4.10 with 35s and those work together pretty well.

Different motors tho. The 6.2 isn’t the same as the 5.0 or the eco’s

That is true. I think the 6.2 hits peak power at a lower RPM. It probably doesn't need as much gear as the others to get by.

With the 6R80 and it's 4.17 first gear, I think 4.10's would be very good with 35" tires. You'd have a nice balance of launch capability and overdrive at freeway speeds. With previous generation trucks and their 2.84 first gear, 4.56 gears were a much better option. I put 4.56's in my '05 with 35" tires and it made a completely different machine out of it, but if I were re-gearing the '13 I'd most likely go with 4.10. The drivability/throttle response with 4.56's is guaranteed to make you smile, but it might be unnecessarily giving up some of the effective OD, considering the low 1st and 2nd gears in the 12th gen trucks. It would be a tough call, I've regeared two trucks to 4.56 and was very happy with the performance increase.

That chart good for comparison purposes, but hugely misleading as to cruising RPM because it doesn't account for overdrive. If you take 35" tires and 4.56 ratio you get 2845 rpm. When factored for a .70 overdrive you end up at 1992 rpm. By my math, that chart must be 65 mph.

Dunno, I just googled it. I’ve seen numerous versions and didn’t really give much thought.

I can't help it, I'm something of a gear nerd.
