Gas Millage?

Adam and Jaime "proved" that in a busted old Toyota though. We all know that Ford engineers have a little more know-how than our boys across the Pacific do when it comes to trucks. I would say a tonneau cover would benifit these new trucks because the cab has a good flow characteristic.

My experience on a 170 mi round-trip from San Antonio to Corpus Christi and back...'09 4x4 5.4L SCREW with a bakflip bed cover, 87 octane:
--San Antonio (800' elevation) to Corpus (sea level) i.e. downhill: 75 mph set, one stop= 17.4 on the trip computer, 14.4 mpg calculated.
--Return trip: 70 mph set, one stop=19.2 on the computer and 17.2 calculated.
I was surprised by how far off the computer is, but even more surprised by how 5 mph made such a difference.

2009 4x2 V8 4.6L. 60/40 city/highway with non-highway usage comprising of lots of short trips and idling for dropoffs and pickups -- and averages b/w 18 and 19mpg. Started with under a hundred miles and a comp-calc'd mpg of 8 and some change. Having not reset it, it seemed to start evening out around 3k miles.

I have the same truck and get up to 24 mpg on freeway!
I have an '09 Supercab STX with the 3V 4.6, limited slip and 6 speed tranny. I bought the truck a few weeks back and only have about 700 miles on it. My question is: I am only getting 14mpg avg, what's with this? I do a lot of highway driving. Is there a break in period or anyone else have a similar issue and know how to UP the MPG?
