i believe the toneau and the mesh gate myth was busted in a dodge dakota.....

My experience on a 170 mi round-trip from San Antonio to Corpus Christi and back...'09 4x4 5.4L SCREW with a bakflip bed cover, 87 octane:
--San Antonio (800' elevation) to Corpus (sea level) i.e. downhill: 75 mph set, one stop= 17.4 on the trip computer, 14.4 mpg calculated.
--Return trip: 70 mph set, one stop=19.2 on the computer and 17.2 calculated.

I was surprised by how far off the computer is, but even more surprised by how 5 mph made such a difference.

2009 4x2 V8 4.6L. 60/40 city/highway with non-highway usage comprising of lots of short trips and idling for dropoffs and pickups -- and averages b/w 18 and 19mpg. Started with under a hundred miles and a comp-calc'd mpg of 8 and some change. Having not reset it, it seemed to start evening out around 3k miles.

They busted it again using 2007 ford f-150 5.4l screws, two of them side by side. So that gave me my answer for my truck perfectly, lol!

I haven't bothered to check mine. When it's empty, I put gas in it.
What choice do I have?
I hate walking.

Florida Salt Life,This lid will improve your gas mileage. I am building them one at a time for Ford F150 owners who want them. The look is different for it is all about aerodynamics. Tonneau covers do work. Mythbusters are full of sheepdip. The aerodynamic cover I build is twice as effective as a tonneau cover in saving fuel and more roomy too. I have had two wind tunnel tests and plenty of road testing to back up my claims. When gas gets back up to $3.50 + a gallon this summer, as predicted by the boys on Wall Street, you will really begin to appreciate the aerodynamic cover. Bondo
