Cool Gas Millage?

I have an '09 Supercab STX with the 3V 4.6, limited slip and 6 speed tranny. I bought the truck a few weeks back and only have about 700 miles on it. My question is: I am only getting 14mpg avg, what's with this? I do a lot of highway driving. Is there a break in period or anyone else have a similar issue and know how to UP the MPG?

I have a 5.4L with a little over 1300 miles on it. I'm now getting about 16 mpg driving in town. For the first 300-500 miles, the mileage was AWFUL, but it gradually gets better (did for me).

My 4X2 Platinum get better milage the more I drive it. Got a little over 3K and just got the 1st oil change and it is getting even better milage.

Alot depends on your foot as I can get 16mpg around town but if foot gets heavy 14mpg is all to easy to achive, even lower! Highway at about 60mph you can get over 25mpg.

We just drove from Calif to Wisconsin. Through the mountains we averaged 16mpg at 80mph (flat lands). Heading through the midwest, we averaged 16-17 at 80mph depending on what angle the high winds were hitting us at.

I've yet to fill mine up, still riding on the dealer gas. I've got 410miles on it and the message center is saying 17.5mpg's and I've got a little over 1/4 tank left.

I got the same truck--'09 F150 SC XLT with the 4.6-3V/3.55 LS--and I'm getting around 17.6-17.8 MPG mostly in around-town driving (<10% hwy), and fairly hilly at that (SW Ohio). That's according to the fuel computer, and some have noted on here that those number may be up to 0.5-1.0 MPG optimistic. Current mileage is just under 5K.

So it's looking like, hopefully, my MPG will improve with time. I drive fairly easy and am also considering a tonneau to keep my gear dry and improve MPG.

I've got the 5.4 with 1200 miles on it. The first tank averaged 15.8 with mixed highway/city. My second tank is just about empty but the gauge is indicating 17.8. I'll have to do the math when I fill the truck up to see the actual mpg. I did reset the mpg since the first half a tank of gas was consumed towing a trailer through the mountains. I was getting 13.8 mpg according to the dash before I reset it while towing. It was a 2,000lbs or so trailer. Mileage is definitely getting better the more I drive it.
