Default FX4 Height difference

I recall when I purchased my 2014 FX4 reading that the FX4 package gave it additional height. Is this correct? Is the additional height just in the rear? The reason I ask is I want to level it and I want to know if I need more lift in the front than a regular 4x4. THx

First I've heard, but curious to hear if I'm wrong.

The FX4 has changed a lot over the years. It was originally it’s own trim level. By 2014 an FX4 was just an option package of shocks, skid plates, and tires. I have never heard anything about the springs being taller in the FX4. If it ever was, it was probably in the earlier years when it was a separate trim level.

The other thing that made me think of it recently was about 2 weeks ago I parked next to a more recent model. A 2015-2017, and there was no doubt that the top of my rear tailgate was noticeably higher.

In 2014 it was still it's own trim level, it was between the XLT and Lariat and had a lot of unique features. In 2015+ it became an add on package to other trims.

For 09-14 it is the same height as the other trucks, however the shock tuning is different, but no height difference. I can't comment on height comparison of a 09-14 to a 15+.

Could have been a truck that was leveled by lowering the rear a tad (remove/or smaller blocks maybe?)

Do related keyword searches and you'll find related threads and posts...

When Bilstein 5100 shocks became available for 2014+ F150, I jumped on it as did several others here. My objective wasn't lift/levelling but instead improved jounce/rebound vs OEM stock shocks which I did achieve. I remain delighted in my choice (BTW, equivalent fitment Bilstein 5100 shocks in my 2000 Wrangler - now retired strictly for weekly trail use with new 2017 KJ Rubicon 6-speed replacing that for local grocery-getter duties).

Pertaining to topic, don't believe FX4 had any spring nor related ride height differences than other model year F150 4WD trucks. You can see my own before/after dimensions shown here as well as others if starting from beginning of an older related thread...

I have a 2011 FX4 and always thought the rear end sat up high, not sure if it is any higher than other models but looked like it to me. Anyway, i leveled mine with Bilsteins and went with the second from the top setting (1.75 i believe) as i did not want to max it out or add too extreme suspension angles. Turned out nice at that setting, rides a little stiffer but still better than the factory shocks and only has about 1/2 inch or less of rake.

The rear is just ridiculously high on all the F150's. Almost to the point of impacting usability for any of us that are under 6'4".

Just different tuning in the shocks. If that gave it any lift, it was barely noticeable.
I've had/have 3 of them.
