Fx2 opinions
In my case its not a extra few thousand,, from fx2 to fx4 it was about 7000 + tax for something I rarely need and 4x4 fx4 was a 5.4 motor which I dont need and is less efficient. Had a 4x2 before and was fine for our winters. Being in the fire service and responding to accidents. Majority of them in bad weather are 4x4 and suvs. Why because many of those drivers think that they can get through anything,,,,, wrong!!
That is why I went with the STX! I would rather have the 4wd VS leather and a bunch of gee gaw gizmos with chrome trim pieces.
The STX came with upgraded rims and had color matched bumpers and the blacked out grill. It has the 4.6 3V w/ 6spd.
To each his own I guess, I would rather have function over form but thats me.
I am also in the fire service and work on a heavy rescue and also see alot of 4x4 and suv's involved in accidents in snow but usually it is driver error whisch is the result of some guy/girl that has driven nothing bigger than a Honda civic their whole life and now they jump into a 4x4 and think they are invincible!!! It's called 4 wheel drive not 4 wheel stop!! A 4wd in capable hands is still a great advantage though!

Its funny I was stationed in Seattle before this and I was passing AWD cars in my lil Scion tC. I got a 4x4 explorer as well. Just needed something cheap for long trips and sitting in the crappy traffic going to and from work.
I will prolly get the FX4 because I like the flow through console. I hate the shifter stick up by the wheel. And with an XLT with the options I want its only a grand more and has the options I want and more. I plant to off road it a few times a year as well, but I plan to make it my DD and need some creature comforts if i am going to spend that much money and plan to keep it for a long time.
But I will prolly wait to see if Ford upgrades the engines in the F150. I think the new 5.0 in the 2011 mustang GT would make a nice home in the F150 engine bay.
