Hey guys, noob question..(just send me the link to the thread if this is a repost, apologize if it is)
I've decided to give myself the christmas present of a suspension lift and new rims and tires !IF! I can pay off all my credit card debt and save enough money by then..
Anyways, im not to familiar with truck after market..ive come to trucks from a mustang last year with a 4x2 and now a couple months ago i traded for the '11 FX4..
1) So my questions are what are the pros and cons of the suspension lifts?
Longer suspension travel(with spring lift), more body clearance, fit bigger tires which will provide more ground clearance at the lowest point (axles). Good kits are relatively expensive, bigger tires/taller truck will reduce fuel economy.
2) Is suspension travel shorter, longer or the same?
Should be longer
3) Do you have to weld or cut on anything? (i keep reading back and forth that you do and some say you dont)
Some kits yes, some kits no.
4) Are your offroad capabilities cut short or made to handle better?(obviously clearance will be a tid bit higher lol)
Better, after all, that is the general purpose of them...
5) What are the major/minor risk for the short term and long term life of the truck?(i understand that you should recalibrate your electronics for the new set up?)
With good maintenance and upkeep, there is really no affect on the truck, unless you don't use proper kits, especially upgrading components as needed for larger tires, or if you wheel hard enough to break stuff. And yes you should recalibrate for tires/gears/tune as needed (Assuming you know that it is often a good idea to change gears with different tire sizes to maintain good ratio's and not burn up/prematurely wear out your transmission.
probably will have more questions the more i think about it but i think these are most of my more important ones...
thanks for every that responds!
