Forum “third rail” question
I know on vehicle forums it seems the fastest way to start an argument is discussing oil and/or spark plug recommendations, lol.
I already ordered the stock Motorcraft platinum plugs so that’s decided.
I am also fine getting the Motorcraft semi synthetic oil but I’ve heard that once the warranty is out it’s better to switch to 5w30 rather than the 5w20 listed on the oil cap and in the owners manual. I’ve read some threads on it but I’d like to hear some current opinions on the matter.

I gather from that question you would not agree. The general argument is there is better protection for wearing engine tolerances and that it can quiet engine noises. I’ve also seen it claimed that the only reason 5w20 was recommended is because that’s what they used to get the highest MPG rating for publication and so they can’t now recommend anything different. I guess the presumption would be if they weren’t limited by the MPG ratings issue they would probably have just recommended 5w30 in the first place.
I don’t really have an opinion which is why I asked.

Also was wanting to give your post a "bump."
This may be the thread that everyone goes back to:

Scott Whitehead was the systems engineer on the Aviator's 4V 4.6 V8 and the 2005 Mustang 3V 4.6 V8.
He hasn't posted on the corner-carvers forum since 2011 and he clearly wasn't involved in any Coyote development.

But suffice it to say I've seen and been involved in a LOT of development on these motors, and my personal opinion is that I would never run 5W-20 in a modular motor.

Because I've seen the dyno testing. I've probably looked at several hundred engines disassembled and spread out on inspection tables. And I've been involved in testing to resolve issues where varying the oil viscosity was part of the test DOE. Trading a very small [fuel economy] improvement in exchange for a large durability safety margin is not something I'm interested in doing.

Actually the GT500 never had a 5.0, the 5.0 that uses the 5W-50 is the track pack and the Boss Mustangs. Both the 5.4 and the 5.8 motors in the GT500 did use 5W-50 though.

I wouldn't go past 5w30, as engines wear clearances increases and over that time the thinner oil will not lubricate as well. It won't hurt anything.
Infact the box even says 2020 predator 5.2 right on it. Ford sells these for all 5.0 motors the bolt right on.
Now back to the oil. Dump any 5w you want in personally I'd stick to the 20-40 range. None of it will harm your engine.
