Ford Sync Hack video
What they need is enhanced vision - combination of synthetic vision and FLIR that can allow us to drive in the soupiest fog or low-visibility conditions at full speed. Like we do in aircraft.
Or the ability to use gestures to move any image or text from the MFT screen to the instrument panel screen or vice versa.
Gestures for zoom in-zoom out. Faster processor with more memory needed for all of this though. But memory is cheap, and the processors aren't that much more expensive - at least of the power needed to support simple gestures.
Open source the code so we can display or control whatever we want.

Geez another Microsoft comment....never ends
WOW! someone resurrects a 9 month old thread!!
really...? that is all you people got?
There is a digital display on the dash and nobody has taken the time to hack with a new background? Or just something useful like a functional volt gauge....? The cutesy ford animation that hasn't been modified?
Where have all the real geeks gone?

I am really new to the F150 thang. I want to really "customize" not just bolt-on or plug-in purchased items. No offense, but anybody can do that....
Has anyone ever attempted to actually to hack the driver display?
Wouldn't the driver display make a good a backup camera display? It looks like the resolution is good enough. Now that is what I call a mod!

Looks like it would cost you a pretty penny to modify the Sync system.
Sync is actually "Microsoft Windows Embedded Automotive" so you would need to get developer tools for said OS:

I installed linux ubuntu 6 years ago on 1 computer, 4 years ago on another... never had to do anything to them since. the OS auto updates on it's own (with my mouse click) and I don't worry about virus' and/or the crap windoze users have to deal with (freezing, hanging, reboots, etc)...
granted sync is it's own beast, but I can't even update mine because I don't run an MS pc in the house. the sync site didn't give me an option other then MS or iOS... will have to use a work PC.
