Default Ford and GM Partnering to build transmissions

On my phone, so I can't link the article here, but it's from Power Block.

Ford and GM are partnering to build new 9 & 10 speed transmissions that will go into cars and trucks to improve both performance and mileage.

I foresee transmissions that are always hunting for and changing gears. That could be quite annoying...

SkiSmuggs, this is something they have done before as a joint venture. It's why we have a lot of these six speed autos paired up with four cylinders. At least it's two American companies sharing technology to continue insuring us driving our trucks past the CAFE changes of 2016. I'm looking forward to seeing these new transmissions, this should increase pulling power, acceleration, and fuel mileage.

When I see the gear ratio war going on, I start wondering whether they would be better off designing a heavy duty CVT instead. At least then they win the gear ratio war with an infinite number of possible gear ratios.

Saw that this morning on news site. It said for trucks too. I wonder how far makers are going to give trucks mpg as a car! Seems like too far to me. But, hey, I don't know much.

Well dodge has 8 & 9 speeds in their cars and trucks now as of 2013. So it's a bit of a game of catch up and pass. :-o

This is a good thing. If GM didn't have a company like Ford to hold their hand and help improve their products they will soon end up out of business. With one less competitor on the marker Fords products might really start to decrease in quality. By helping the competition they are ensuring that the number of options available to consumers stays high and thus promoting the need to maintain high standards. (Joking)

But actually it's not far off.

Let us hope that they are more ford than g.m.. I don't want to have to replace a tranny every 50'000 miles or so.
