Wondering what is involved in completely removing the flow-through center console in my 2011 Lariat SCREW.

Coastal Electronics (the folks who make Lockpick) used to have a lockpick install video that showed how to "un-screw" the center console, but for their purposes they did not remove it completely. That's helpful, but I'm wondering how to disconnect the wiring and air ducts also.

It may be simple (and obvious) once I get it un-screwed, but thought I'd inquire first in case it is not-so-simple.

aw shoot, for a minute I though maybe you were wanting to try and convert to a column shift; I would have GLADLY swapped some parts with you, lol, I want the flow-through center console in my XLT so bad...

Nope, not looking to convert ... just mod'ing.

 

The center console is very easy to remove. It is 6 screws and a couple pressure clips. This link will show you photos and descriptions of how to remove the screws and how to remove any trim pieces. It the link I am posting he is wiring a rear view camera. You are finished with his tutorial when he starts removing the SYNC USB plate. You do not need to do that so stop there. What it does not show is how to remove the shifter connection. I will show you that.

Here is how to remove the connection between the shifter and the transmission. It is easy.

Here is how to remove the shifter connection:

Look under the shifter and you will see a cable the extends from under your shifter down and into the dash. You need to disconnect this cable to remove the dash. Look underneath the shifter to where this cable connects to the shifter. It will look like this:



Now I have already disconnected it in this photo, but all you need to do is take a flat head and pry the female part from the male part. It is fairly easy. (To put it back on just press it back on with your thumb.)

Next, about 8 inches from the connection, the shifter cable is connected to the shifter housing by a pressure clip. You need to release the pressure clip as seen below.



Then from the passenger side, underneath the front part of the console, there is a power connection you need to disconnect. This connection powers your console lighting, 12v plugs, etc.





Once all this is complete, just pull the console backwards toward the rear seat. It comes out pretty easy. There are no screws or pressure clips holding the heat/AC pipes together. They just pull apart.

Rule One: It's always easier to take **** apart than to put it back together.

 

My center console doubles as my mini "Man Cave".

 

The console is very easy to take out and put back together. I have done it 3 times without issue.
