Default Flapping noise on 1st acceleration

Hi everyone

New to the Ford community, been a Tacoma owner for 20yrs. So with that I don't know all the ins & outs of the F150 Ecoboost. I have a 2011 F150 Ecoboost with 90 000km on it. So what I heard today when I first left the house was this flapping sound in the engine area driver side, kinda like blowing air through you lips and making that flapping sound. It would only happen on acceleration and then it seemed to go away after the truck was warmed up. Any ideas and thought would be great.

Thanks, Jim

My 2011 and 2013 didn't do this, however my new 2014 does. Let me know what they find. It's been very damp here, so I'm wandering if it's a moisture build up issue again.

Hi Ian

Will do.

Funny thing- didn't do it today.

Just to get more clarity from you the best way I can describe the sound is like what the guys do on duck dynasty at each other when they disagree with each other, kinda like making a motor boat sound with you lips. Is that the sound you get? And only when I was accelerating from stop.

Yup, that's the noise. My 2011 had the funny vacuum pump noise in the very cold weather so I know it's not that. It's not terribly loud, but if you listen it kind of coincides with the blowoff valve. Seems like it presents itself under light boost when it's only exhausting some of the excess boost. Also seems to only do it when it's very damp and stops when the engine is fully up to operating temp.

It doesn't bother me much, and I have a 2" level kit in the mail. Figured I'd get the truck into the dealer when I take it in for the alignment.

Thanks for reaching out about this, Jim. I'm happy to look into it further for you. Please send me a private message with your full name, best daytime contact number, servicing dealer, and VIN. I'll be on the lookout for your information.

Any word yet?

I've been doing some google research, and I believe what we are hearing is waste gate flutter on partial boost. I noticed when they rust proofed my truck at the dealer they got some of that goo on the turbos, I am wondering if it's causing the wastegate rods to stick a bit. I'm hoping to take it in to the dealer next Saturday to get them to install a level kit for me and will bring it up then.

It is possible the vacuum pot is bogus an needs service on the turbo.

Hi

Update: sorry nothing, hasn't made the sound again. Not even once. Really frustrating.

My 2013 has the flapping tin noise when I step on it from a start, or anytime around 10 mph.
I was lead to believe it's the two condensation holes on either end of the muffler.
I have tapped every shield or piece of metal possible to see if anything is loose, and nothing is.
