Default Fender flares

So I recently bought a 2009 extended cab pretty low miles for the year at only 107600 but it's got some of the common imperfections for the generation especially being a Michigan truck (rusty rockers, rear bed wheel wells starting to bubble. It's probably not in my budget anytime soon to have it repaired so I was considering eventually getting some flares to cover them up eventually. Was wondering what experience people had adding flares to a truck that never had them and what kits are the best.

fender flares won't help and will actually do more damage to your truck. not only do they love to hold moisture but they will rub the paint off under their edges. i just had my rockers repaired and will be removing my flares in favor of some line-x instead.

thanks I'll keep that in mind. They rub the paint off where the touch the side of the bed or the underside of the wheel lip? You're talking about line-x like the bed liner correct?

where it touches the bed. eventually it will rub the paint off and then sooner or later (depending on your location in the country) the rust will follow. i even took it a step furhter by installing rubber door guards on the surface that comes in contact with the truck and it did not help. a quick google found this:

yes, line-x the bedliner. plan on doing the rockers and faux-fender flares with it in a month or two depending on the weather.

I’d either leave it be or get it fixed right. The big goofy flares look really bad. If the oe style will cover it, go with those. They look good, especially if painted to match.

A little bit of misleading info here.

1) Flares mount using pressure washers into existing holes. They don’t do damage or more damage.
2) There are rubber gaskets that line the back of the flare where it touches the body. It doesn’t rub paint off. If it does, you have bad paint.
3) They aren’t wide and stupid looking if you run an offset.

I used EAG’s https://a.co/d/b3uXVz2

it all comes down to opinion on flare style. I personally like the "big goofy flares", just installed some on mine because the rust bubbles were not right at the edge of the fenders. I think they look good, easy to install with a second set of hands.

I installed these:

FALSE. not all fender flares mount in the same way and they ALL will do damage to the paint over time. some even require you to drill into the body as part of the mounting process.

FALSE. unless you weld metal flares on and make them a permanent part of the body they will rub off the paint if they touch the paint. it's impossible NOT TO. that's how physics works. two surfaces rubbing against each other removes paint. a simple google search will show you the error of your thoughts. then again i suppose it could be possible that ford, toyota, chevy and every other truck manufacturer in the world does not know how to paint correctly. my money is on the rubbing.

again, dependent on the flares themselves and the perception of the party viewing them. some flares are thin and some are 3"-4" wide.

The flares I posted mount the way I said they did no misinformation. Claiming that flares in general damage paint or fenders while mounting is ignorant and false aka a lie. Let’s keep the post to facts and where you have experience.

Sounds like you buy shi++y parts or don’t know how to install them properly. I posted my install as proof, let’s see your crappy flares that made you mad at the world. LOL

reading comprehension > you

never once said they will damage a truck while being mounted, and believe it or not the flares you posted are not the only kind there are. what i said what that it will eventually rub off the paint on the contact point. you can't beat physics.

wrong again. at least you are consistent. i'll wager the cost of new flares that when you remove your flares you will have wear marks along the top edge where it meets the paint just as all the others do from the myriad of posts online showing the damage. we all know you won't take that bet though as you will have proof, on your own truck, that what you think is not true.
