Definitely find another dealer, or use the post above to show them how to do it. I wouldn't pay my dealer a dime to flash the computer. He's made some money off of repairs from me, so 10 minutes of computer work had better be free. I live in a very small town where the Ford dealership owner gets on the radio and promises the small hometown advantage and taking care of their people. I bought my truck with 3900 miles from an RV dealer, so when I went to get them to find the door unlock code, they charged me $45 for 3 minutes of work. I called the owner and threw a fit (they had told me it would take 20 minutes) about paying that much for a few minutes and he made them refund my money.

If you're buying it or having the computer flashed by the dealer you purchased the truck from, talk to your salesman and remind him that you bought the truck from him. If that doesn't get you a free flash of your computer, just remind them that they won't get any more warranty work from you when you take it to another dealer.

Default 5 Star Tune programmer and OEM Brake Controller

I have the basic tow package on my 2011 ECO. I currently have an aftermarket controller and I am looking at installing an OEM controller. I have a few questions for the forum:

1: Will reflashing with my tuner accomplish the same thing as the dealer flash?
2: When and if the dealer flashes my truck after the install will I need to reload my 5 Star tune?
3: After the dealer flash if I change/update my 5 Star Tune will I need to get the dealer to reflash for the brake controller again?

You see where I am going with this? I don't want to have to chase the OEM controller around with flashing and reflashing. If so, then I will stay with the aftermarket controller.

Thanks!

1: Will reflashing with my tuner accomplish the same thing as the dealer flash? No. Enabling the TBC is a specific function that the tuner won't do.
2: When and if the dealer flashes my truck after the install will I need to reload my 5 Star tune? If you take it to the Dealer to enable the TBC, I would return the truck to stock, then re-load the tune afterwards.
3: After the dealer flash if I change/update my 5 Star Tune will I need to get the dealer to reflash for the brake controller again? No.

You can also enable the TBC yourself with a Windows device (pc or tablet), an OBDII dongle, and a free program called Forscan. Here's the thread.

1. There is a differnece between the 2009 and 2010, make sure you get the right part.
2. You can install it yourself, if you have minimum skills.
3. It MUST be activated by a Ford dealer, but there are at least a few dealers out there who will do it for free

Regarding difference between the 2009 and 2010, there seems to be a lot of confusion. I can confirm that this is not the case. Part number AL3Z-19H332-AA works on both 2009 and 2010 (built on or before 11/2/2010). This part was installed and activated today on my 2009 F150, using FORScan and an ELM327 WiFi OBDII Scanner.
