Default Factory step bar install

Hey,

I just installed the factory 5" chrome step bars. But, to me they don't look straight? What I mean is that they seem to stick out further at the front doors then they do at the rear doors. In other words it is almost like they are tapered in towards the rear.

I know alot of pople have these boards, has anyone noticed this?

I will stop by the dealer on Friday in the daylight, but for tonight this bugs me. Can anyone put my mind at ease? FYI I purchased these at the dealer who said they were take-offs (1 week old) from someone who put power boards on.

Thanks,

Budgee

Are your brackets in the correct holes?

Stand in front of the truck and glance along the sides. It should be parallel with the doors.

I first noticed this when standing at the front of the vehicle. They definately don't stick out the same distance (parallel) down the length of the vehicle. They might be out by an 1"+/- or so.

Maybe they were take-offs for this reason and maybe juts maybe the power boards story was false.

I willl go to the delear in the morning before work to check out the fit of the step bars on the trucks on the lot.

Lastly I paid $530.00 Canadian for the take-offs. If i return these does anyone have a good source for the factory boards? I can find the Ionic railway boards (same as factory) online for $329.00 US, but they want an extra $200.00 just for shipping into Canada.

Cheers,

Budge

Default May be normal

I installed my own after-market step bars, and I noticed the same thing. I was able to loosen everything up and move them a little, but yes, they are off a little. You don't notice unless you are looking from the front.

For me, it's no big deal. My 2010 is so sharp, that I hope people aren't focused on the step bars!

I went to check the step bars on my truck. They're the optional 5" chromies installed at the factory. Looking from the front towards the back, definitely looks like the bars are not parallel, tapering into the back doors. But glancing from the back to the front, the bars appear to be parallel to the doors. Weird.

Okay,

I went to the dealership this morning and they had 2 trucks with the 5" OEM step bars installed. Both were XTR's so I assume that they are standard equipment for the XTR trim line. What I discovered is that both are tapered as described above. Similar to how they sit on my truck. It looks like there is a small amount of play were the bracket mounts to the underside of the step (maybe 1/8"), to position the bar on the bracket. I will tweak the install this weekend. Move the bar 1/8" in at the front brakcet and 1/8" out at the rear bracket. Therefore move the entire step 1/4" in total. Now I know what your thinking a 1/4" seems like nothing, but because the bars are so long a I think 1/4" will make a huge difference in the alignment over 6'.

FYI there is no adjustment were the bracket bolts onto the truck itself. 4 bolts per bracket, 2 installed vertically and 2 installed horizontally.

Thanks for you help,

Budgee
