Np. You won't be disappointed with the Viper and I wish I went that way. The Ford 6-button VS/RMST is lousy with range, I get maybe on a good day 300'.

OP, I think you made a good decision. You'll love the ability to be sitting in a building somewhere where you can't see the truck and have the FOB tell you when you were successful starting.

Notice the number of Alberta base posters bashing the ford unit. It's a matter of life and a frozen *** here!

Here's a trick to try- stand beside a lampost (metal, fiberglass, whatever), and try your remote button there. You'll be surprised that sometimes this actaully helps the range!

Taking the remote, point it into the underside of your chin and pressing the buttons works as well...

Contacted my local dealership for a quote today on installing the 2way 100series and yes, I also was told that : "..we find that ford remotes are flawed.." and that they use a local installer instead..

I just have to figure out a system for a vehicle so you can dial a number on the cell phone and the car starts.
Sounds too dangerous, too many people have died because their car mysteriously started while it was in their attached garage. Can you immagine how many cars could be started by wrong numbers being called. The factory remote has a complex code system that should not get activated randomly. That is the only way I will have one in my garage.

They have all kinds of other options that you can add onto them as well after such as GPS tracking and txt-to-start cappabilities. But the txt-to-start is expensive you are pretty much buying a cell phone that is part of the truck unit and you have to buy an airtime plan. but none the less it is cool.

i went to futureshop and had them install a viper smart start. so long as i have cell service, the truck will start... from any where in the world, as i'm told. not that i really cared too much for that part. but at the time, i was a swamper on a bed truck in the oil patch, and when we would return to drayton valley, i would fire up my truck about 15 mins from the shop. lol, the driver always sat for a half hour after we got back where i was able to just up and take off.

all in all, i wanted something more than 1 or 2 miles for range. the GPS is great too, expecially when i park in west edmonton mall.

you will never be let down with the VSS. so long as your truck is in cell service, the truck will start.

best buy = futureshop

i went to futureshop to get mine, they told me i would need an aditional bypass module of some sort for 250CDN. all in all, i paid 672 after tax, plus a day off work, and a tank of fuel to edmonton and back.

while i do wish the truck would run longer (10 min per cycle), it grew on me because i'm also not one who enjoys idleing for too long.

i've noticed that the ford dealership out here sells "the drone" which from what i can tell, is like a VSS, but different badges.

again... the VSS is the way to go. it's the only mod i've done to my truck in a year, and now... i'm gonna branch that out more.
