My dealer accepted any amount for my order. I gave them a $100 dollar check and it was fully refundable if I decided I didn't want it.

I talked to a dealer about doing an order and they wanted 100% upfront payment. That doesn't seem right to me, especially if I will not get the truck for months. It is not like Ford has custom options like Porsche that you can order in any color imaginable.

Forum rules prevent me from posting the words I would have used with that dealer.

As many have said, every dealer is different. When I ordered mine, they requested a $1000 deposit that was refundable under the assumption that we would work something out if it came down to it. I respectfully told the salesman that I wasn't interested in giving them my money for a couple months, when they were going to order a truck that was basically the same one I was ordering anyway (they tagged mine onto a large stock order).

The salesman said that we would "talk about it later", ordered the truck, and never said anything about it later on. It probably helped to show them that I was serious as I had rented an F150 to put a few hundred miles on and see how I liked it (no demos available). When I ordered the truck, I just happened to have had the rental with me.

I didn't have to pay a deposit either. They asked what I wanted to put down and I said I would prefer to put down $0... they said ok and ordered my truck.
