Default Factory NAV question

Hi all.
Got a quick question for those with the factory navigation system:
How are you doing map updates, and what's the cost? Where do you get them?
Thanks a lot!

I have not done this yet (for the cost probably won't for a long time) but I think it's $199.

My truck tells me to call 1-800-392-3673 and lists an application number and map number...alternately, navigation.com lists current version for my '09 as 3.x, where I am at 1.x.

Hope this helps

$200? Wow, that is insane. Yeah, I'd not do many updates at that price either.

All nav updates from all Auto OEMs are about $200.

I didn't know that. Seems awfully expensive. I bought a Garmin with lifetime map updates for $99 (that's the GPS including the lifetime updates). Ouch.

Correct, and I think they are making a marketing mistake. At $50 I would get an update every year. At $200, I haven't gotten one yet (2010 model) and will probably wait another year or two.

I expected the steep map upgrade price. I need to see what version I have on my new one.

But you know what annoys me the most about the way the nav works. You can have your navigation orientation in "North Up" or "Heading Up". I believe most folks (including myself) use "Heading Up" when viewing the map or following a route. On this system, if you zoom out past the 2.5 Mile scale, it forces the map into "North Up" configuration and you can't get back to "Heading Up" unless you zoom back in to the 2.5mi range or smaller. THAT is annoying to me! It's like the programmers (of which I am one) are telling me THEY know what's best for me. That is ridiculous!
