Default Factory alarm question

While out for dinner last night I came back to a nice surprise - a shattered driver window and some of my belongings stolen.. I thought the alarm would go off but I don't think it did. Does the alarm only go off if the ignition is tampered with? Or the door locks?
Would an aftermarket alarm sound if a window is shattered?

The factory "alarm" is only a passive alarm, which means it will only go off if the doors are opened without unlocking with the key fob.

This shock sensor will set off the alarm if someone hits the truck or smashes glass. Cheap upgrade for your peace of mind, and it's all plug and play. I have it installed on mine. There's even a **** to adjust the sensitivity.

Hm well not sure how they got in, if they opened the door after smashing the window or climbed through the window.. maybe the alarm did go off and turned off after awhile? Not too sure.. pretty bummed out about it considering I have had the truck a week and a half, and it being a 2012 is the newest vehicle I have owed and I'm only 20 so to me it feels like a brand new vehicle.
In 2 weeks I am getting a two way command start put in and I think it has a shock sensor and what not, it was a pretty expensive higher end one.
I've learnt my lesson about keeping things in my vehicle while parked downtown now, I see why no one else's was broken into lol..

+1 for the upgraded OEM VSS with shock sensor. I set the sensitivity on mine pretty high so that any attempts to "pop" the key cylinder on the door will make the alarm go off. I've read a few posts here where people's trucks were broken into my the thief basically smashing the lock cylinder on the door in.
