F150 & Guns
Depends which gun I have at the time, I cc a .380 so it's on me even when driving. The 1911 I keep in it's belt holster and right where I can get at it in a moments notice if some thug or crack head decides they want to make the worse mistake of their about to be very short life and tries to carjack me.
Lock boxes are ok for transporting across state lines and that's about it, what are you going to do when the above mentioned attack happens, ask them to wait a minute while you get out lift the rear seat/dig thru the console and unlock the box?
Reminds me of what a state trooper asked my brother when he was stopped at a dui check point, he didn't have any ammo in the gun, had it in his glove box, the trooper came back and asked him if he planned to beat them over the head with it if an attack happened, told him if he's going to carry it should be loaded and sent him on his way.
P.S. OP, there is a thread here that goes back 6 years and it's all about guns ins/outs, etc.... probably find even more good ideas for transport.

Trust me the lock box only gets used when it is the last option. For example, I'm carrying and have to take it off to enter a courthouse. I agree 100%. A locked away or unloaded firearm does no good. The world is a crazy place so I carry as much as possible. It's BS I can't carry on base. Come on DoD...everyone is rifle qualified why not just pistol qual everyone and let us carry. I digress

.
I leave a cheap gun in my center console bersa 380 or ruger lcp. I'm not going to keep a kimber or high end gun in my truck. If some one breaks into my tuck I am only out 275 for a gun. No big loss..
Here is my idea of a fix. For example I am stationed in SD. I obtain a SD carry permit and then go through a mandated DoD pistol course (x amount of class and range time with a qual at the end) to obtain an installation conceal permit that will stand on any non overseas base no matter what branch. Sounds simple to me but what do I know, I'm not a Commander ha.
Uh huh... I've seen these "everyone is qualified' soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen... about 70% scare the crap out of me with their 'handling' of any firearm...
