Default F-250 6.4 Diesel MPG

A few months back a mechanic wrote a post saying that the new Ford diesels were getting poor gas mileage because of new emissions standards for diesels that were just implemented.

Well, the new Annual Auto Issue from Consumers Reports just showed up, so I looked up trucks.

Both the Ford F-150 and the Chevy 1500 were recommended vehicles, with the Toyota Tundra having a big asterisk next to it, "until the problems are resolved".

But the 6.4 Diesel F-250 Lariat was shown as having a 10 mpg rating in mixed driving. Yikes!

The Chevy Silverado with the 6.6 was shown as doing 13 mpg.

Just some interesting, and surprising, info. They showed the price as tested of the Ford at $50,735, the Chevy at $50.149. Wonder how much cheaper the gas engine is.

My dad has an '09 6.4 F350 and it gets the same mileage my F150 gets, so don't listen to everyone out there. They don't all get crappy mileage like that. That truck gets roughly the same mileage as the '03 5.9 Cummins he had before it, without the "crappy" emissions control equipment. It's all in how you drive it.

I just traded my 08 F250 KR in yesterday for a 2010 F150. It had the 6.4. The thing was a power monster. I averaged 15mpg that was 70% hwy and dirt roads and 30% city. I loved the truck except for all the coolant issues I had and the cost to maintain it. If you haven't already gone there I HIGHLY recommend powerstroke.org. There are some great guys on there and they can all provide you with some great information on those trucks.

Yeah, my 2008 F250 FX4 with the 6.4L averaged 9.9 mpg in town (with 35-inch tires) with moderate foot on the pedal. I could get it to 11 mpg if I drove like a grandma, but I couldn't drive like that for too long.
