Default Exhaust question

Hi guys. I just put a MAK off road y on my truck. I have a borla atak catback on the truck (came on the truck) and it sounds absolutely horrible IMO. I wasn't much a fan of the borla before I put the off road y on, but now its got to go. It is so raspy.

Anyhow I am torn at what to do. I am leaning towards getting a bigger magnaflow to replace the borla with or possibly just adding another muffler to what I have now. The problem with the second idea is that the borla is raspy no matter what. I think if I were to just add a second muffler it would sound the same as what I had to begin with before the off road y. And I guess my third option would be to get an entire new catback which I would end up with a single exit of some sort.

What do you guys think?

Adding a resonator before the muffler would cure the rasp.

The atak is known for being raspy and quite loud. The s-type system Borla offers is the same as the atak, but with a resonator.

Contact Stage3Motorsports and see what they recommend. Resonator will probably run ~$100. They'll point you in the right direction.

I don't know where one gets the idea that the SType features a resonator. I think it is just a different muffler. The kit pictures don't show one and neither does the install guide from Stage3.

The real difference in how these kits sound comes down to the internal designs of their mufflers. The F150 5.0L S-Type cat-back system features a straight-through muffler design that allows for excellent exhaust outflow and is finely tuned and balanced to help cancel out high-frequency sounds that cause interior drone and rasp. While the straight-through design is a good deal louder and more aggressive than stock, its sound scales nicely with your truck's rpm to give your an awesome tone when you punch the throttle while staying mellow at cruising and idle.

OP-You can also sell the kit if you would rather replace the entire thing. It will sell fast without a doubt. But I say just get the resonator.

That's the old s-type. The new model is just the atak, but with a resonator.

The ATAK is raspy enough as it is, I can only imagine how horrible it sounds without cats!

Remove your ATAK system and sell it here on the forum (or even offer it up for trade.) Lots of demand for that system so you shouldn't have a problem finding a buyer. I would di that before cutting up a $1000 system.

Well guys I ended up buying a magnaflow muffler. I should be able to pull the borla out and slip the new magnaflow right in.

I don't know why anybody would think the atak system sounds good in the least. I just drove about 50 miles and it sounds like there is some sort of a flapper just going nuts in the muffler rattling off everything. It reminds me of hitting vtec which for a v8 guy is embarrassing as hell

Which magnaflow did you get? I had an 18" magnaflow and it sounded great.
