Default Exhaust (Magnaflow or Flowmaster)

Fellow Ford frenzies, I need some help! I'm trying to decide to go magnaflow or flowmaster and whether to get the dual or side exhaust for my 2010 STX.

I want something that sounds and performs good.

Any input?

Do they have a real throaty growl to them? And how's the drone? - I've heard some on YouTube but can't really tell the sound since the microphones are usually from a phone.

Flowmaster and Magnflow both offer excellent exhaust systems with superior quality so you can't go wrong with either one. I personally am a Flowmaster fan, so naturally I run the 40 series on mine with 3.5" angle cut tips. Also, my local muffler shop keeps Flowmaster in stock so it just made more sense at the time anyway because I didn't want to wait, I wanted to hear that sweet 5.4L growl!

HANDS down IMO the magna flow #12198, nice deep tone on accell and no drone at all, literally as quiet as stock inside. I have had flow masters 50 series through 40 series on all my trucks and once I heard the magna flow I was hooked. To me its one of the best sounding mufflers out there. I have a couple links on youtube with sound and there are some other with the 12198

I have owned both, and currently have a magnaflow. That being said, nothing sounds better than a 40 series flowmaster with a 3inch turn down. Had that setup on a couple truks and always got compliments. Its DEEP and sounds mean, but it droned like crazy on my 2010 5.4. I have a 14inch magnaflow now on my 5.0 and like it, its alot more civilized, and doesnt drone much. Miss the flowmaster sound, some times tho.
As far as performance goes i dont see 1 being better than the other. People say chambered mufflers like flowmaster dont flow enuf air, i say go to the track and watch thecars with twice our horsepower pull the front tires while running flowmasters.
To sum it up, i beleive performance is equal. If u want quiet performance, go magnaflow, if u want to sound mean, go flowmaster.

Isn't the 12198 only the muffler. No catback?

I've always had flowmaster 40 series on my trucks. Absolutely love the sound! I still have the resonator on mine and I don't have any drone. Idk if the drone will come if I take it off. I've heard people say u get better performance with the magnaflow's straight-through design, but u won't feel much of a difference if ur only changing the exhaust anyway.
