Fuel Pump (FP) Shut-off Feature

In the event of a moderate to severe collision, the vehicle is equipped with a Fuel Pump (FP) shut-off feature that is initiated by the event notification signal.

The event notification signal is a signal provided by the Restraints Control Module (RCM) to the FP control module. Signal communication between the RCM and the FP control module allows the PCM to shut-off the FP .

Should the vehicle shut off after a collision due to this feature, the vehicle may be restarted by first turning the ignition switch to the OFF position and then turn the ignition switch to the ON position. In some instances the vehicle may not start the first time and may take one additional key cycle.

No inertia switch.

Default Problem Found

Had truck towed to dealership. No signal from crank sensor. Had to remove intake manifold and behind and below manifold they found chewed wires and a walnut. Over a day in labor and $700 lighter. Something to consider when it gets cold outside. I hung a bag of mice repellant under the hood and set traps around wheels.

Wow, who would have thought, lol.

My neighbor had a chipmunk chew through his rear brake hose on his Silverado. Happened two times in the exact same spot on the hose. Third brake hose and hasn't been back.

You know it's a bad day when you find a walnut and get your nuts roasted too.

Maybe it was an accident and he left the walnut for you to say sorry.

Glad got it resolved-
Should of asked b4 - did that "walnut" throw any codes or you had no check engine lights during problem?

Thanks for the update. And kudos to your dealer, as that was likely a tough problem to diagnose.

I may have just seen it all now. Glad it wasn't anything serious my friend, and I would hang on to that dealer. Not many would have thought to look there until you had spent a ton of money throwing parts at the truck.

Very common problem mostly in rural areas, I can't tell you how many wiring harnesses I have changed over the years for this very problem. Sometimes it's rats but mostly squirrels.
