Engine increasing in RPM while coasting to a stop
I just took a little 3 mile trip down to my wife's place of business. After leaving the town limits I got the truck up to about 40 MPH then lightly put my foot on the brake and sure enough the RPM's went up when I got down to about 30 MPH and I was on level terrain. It feels like it's down shifting to maybe 4th gear?
Have you guys ever driven a vehicle with a manual transmission? As your vehicle downshifts it will go up in RPM as our are going close to the same speed but with bigger gears. My guess is that it's more prevalent to you because with the extra gear (6 speed transmission) the gears are closer together and it downshifts more.
Mine does the same thing as the OP! I told the sevice tech about it, and they thought I was crazy. Seems like it only does it when it is hot and I too, have seen mine jump up to 1500 rpms for absolutely no reason. I am 100% sure I do not have my tow/haul on.
I tried it the whole way home from work last night 33miles, and I didn't get any high RPM slowing me down. It down shifts, but doesn't go higher than 1000RPMs. In fact on some hills I sped up from 55 to almost 70mph before I had to slow down. I tapped my breaks to recreate it but nothing.

Thanks for the comments. I do not use tow/haul mode. Only tried it once to see what would happen. I'm sure you're all correct in it being the tranny downshifting, which is what I expected. And it does happen more than just on that downhill stretch home - that just happens to be where it's most pronounced and predictable (and annoying) on my daily drive. I still get the "should I shift or not" between 1st and 2nd from the tranny on occassion - don't know if that might acerbate it or not.
My truck does this all the time. I don't think I've ever pushed the "TOW" button. They all do it, but you won't notice it unless you're looking at the tach. I didn't notice it until after I put the Magnaflow muffler on, then I could here it. I posted a thread on this very same thing back in the winter when I got my Magnaflow installed. I thought there was something wrong, but was informed that it was normal. Yours does it too.
I have a magnaflow and notice the EXACT samething...
Approaching a light, it's will seem as if it downshifts the same as when riding a bike and then downshifting one gear lower than necessary before stopping.
