Default Electrical issues

Hello I have a 2012 f150 3.5 ecoboost 4x4. And the issue is that there is no power to anything. Got a low battery warning along with a lower idle sound. I bought a new battery changed it and it fired up and got smoke from alternator. Now no power and new battery is dead. Tow truck tried to jump it and almost killed his truck. Any ideas on where to start.

Sounds like you have an epic short to ground somewhere.

OK so I have located no faults in grounding I have continuity but I have to get another battery because the new one i dead. After further research apparently this truck has a bms so I have to try a new battery and do a reset on bms before starting it. Any idea on if this sounds correct?

I would not put in a new battery yet, since smoke came out of the alternator the first time, you should have that tested. Have you tried recharging the battery? what is the battery voltage? Was the truck running fine before the battery warning?

Yes charge and test battery. Probably highly prudent to pull alternator, might be shorted internally if it smokes. Parts stores used to have testers.

You don't have to do a reset on the BMS ASAP. I would not worry about that till things are sorted out.
Then you can do it. It just changes the charging profile to treat a new battery differentely than an older battery.

Tested last battery at 0 volts and wouldnt take a charge. Swapped it for new one and dont want to make that mistake again.

Make sure to look at the main hot cables to make sure you don't see a hot cable that is shorting out somewhere.
