MPG claim is a bit of a stretch though to be honest. Too many variables.

I know a few people personally that have had problems with theirs, including total engine replacement.

I got ya. I too know a lot of friends with 5.0 and 6.2 that had the same. But those were new model years, and some not. I have own a lot of Fords, one 82 mustang that was total crap, 3 transmissions, paint tuning to tacky like goo and tons of other falling apart crap. I swore off Ford until the explorer a 94, 99 and loved them, after 17 yrs in one of them and a trip to and back from the moon I sold it a got an 11 eco, I waited forever for them to come in. I got to drive an eco before most( Ford came to my house in a f150 and let me test drive the eco) I was hooked. I seen the stories and issues, but I guess I have been lucky cause I have not had the issues, and let me tell you I took my first truck everywhere, Canada, MI winters, AZ summers, salt air, mountains, highway, stop and city, hot, cold, etc... none of the bad issues, just normal everyday driving stuff and sum places you should go 4x4ing issues. But had I not drive to those places I would have not got stuck or dinged up stuff. But hey I like to fish and we go to where we can catch them and I never worries about my explorers of the eco 150. I don't hate on the big blocks, some of my best friends drive them and other brands. Car and truck people have their favorites and I dig the technology of the eco and things you can do to them. I have a programmer coming and I can't wait to have my 2013 eco that has 47k on it, 21k I put on it since 11/15. (I got it used). I call it my cowboy Cadillac (King Ranch) I got because it is the Gem Mint green. And it has everything, but like all my vehicles I will drive the wheels off of it, lol. ✌️️
