ECOBOOST HELP!!! I Need the knowledge of my fellow F150'ers. ECOBOOST
I am in need (once again) of knowledge and real world experience from the ECOBOOST F150 guys and gals out there. I have recently been offered stupid money for my current 08 F150, MISS GEORGIA and I am walking into uncharted territory. This offer brings me to make the consideration of selling my truck and starting another project on a slightly newer model F150 and I am thinking of going with the ECOBOOST. I am currently looking at a few Screws ranging from 2012-2013. I plan on Lifting 6 inches and running 35's (mudders of course), Front bumper replacement, LED bars all over etc...
I need to know the following for ECO's in this year range;
1. What are the known problems as far as the motor and turbos are concerned?
2. I plan on lifting 6 inches, which kits are most liked?
3. I will run a tuner, I have an SCT X4 and plan to use it again BUT if anyone has a better suggestion I'm all ears.
4. Known transmission issues?
5. What performance adders have proven to be better than others; intercooler, exhaust, CAI, Blow off valves etc..
If there are any other aspects I haven't thought of please lend your knowledge my way.
I am very new to the turbo realm and really only know the basics... So please in your responses make them simple and precise as I am a simple mind, LOL.
ANY and ALL help will be greatly appreciated BUT I would prefer to hear from those that actually HAVE an ECOBOOST.
PRE-THANKS in advance

Dazed and Confused
5.0 is not the only way to fly. Have owned both. Drive the EB now. The biggest issue with the EB of that year is condensation in the intercooler causing a stutter. There are many threads on how to fix on this forum.

If you can swing a '13 go for that. Both years could have timing chain stretch but most of the instances were early on. '11-'12 used an electric vacuum pump that can fail and Ford has extended the warranty on that part. '13-'14 have an outstanding recall on the brake booster/ master cylinder. Plan on swapping plugs every 30k miles. Some suffer condensation issues due to moisture build up in the CAC. Easy fix is a small weep hole drilled in the bottom of the CAC. The 6R80 is solid along all platforms IMO.
Now, for the performance part. A CAI or cat back will gain literally nothing except a change in sound. Y-pipe, aftermarket intercooler and bigger turbos would get you the most. Easiest bang for the buck is a tuner which will make a major improvement on how the truck drives.

Ill put my little bit of experience in here since I've owned a few ecos, my father has owned a few 5.0's.
I went from a 2012 FX4 eco, to a 2014 F350 Powerstroke, to a 2014 f150 Limited. My dad had a 2013 platy 5.0
1. I never had any issues with past or current ecos. I have 40k on my 2012 (bone stock) and currently 21k on my 2014. I drive it daily (100+ miles a day, tuned) and I love it. When I drove my dads truck for a while (5.0) I had no issues, other than 1-2mpg drop. Its a typical v8. Slightly more doggy than my eco, but most people probably wouldn't recognize.
2. I don't have experience in kits that big, I had a level on my 2012. F150lifts BOSS kit on my 2014. With the coils, block, and 35s im just shy of 6 inches of total lift and im extremely pleased with the truck and how it rides/handles.
3. Just recently I tuned my 2014 on 5* with the SCT livewire, all from stage3, I love it. Running the 93 economy I only have 1mpg drop since putting 35s on. I ran the 93 performance tune for a day, but honestly its got too much power for my daily commute lol I couldn't keep my foot out of it. I was blowing through gas and speed limits.
4. Personally, my truck is very well behaved tranny wise. Tuning it seemed to take the slight hesitation out of it, or roughness, some people might call it. the 2013 5.0 platinum was...weird. It shifted....a lot. It would seem to downshift all the time from 6th gear, but never logged it on the dash. Still, no issues.
5. The only power adders ive had experience with is a tuner, so I cant really add to this. (trucks at least)
The reason I keep taking ecos is im a huge fan of forced induction. More so roots blowers than turbos. But all do the same thing. Its a very good way of getting gobs of power yet still being very driveable. If you need any other help id be more than willing to try to assist!

Ecoboost is a great motor, dont let the 5.0 guys sway you.
Water in the intercooler can build up but a small 1/16" weep hole can be drilled and the water will no longer build up.
They can also stretch timing chains causing a loud noise at startup. There is a TSB addressing that.
Few extended warranty/recall issues out there dealing with the trans shift and the brake booster. No big deal there.

I've only owned the ecoboost but I love all the power it makes, it's very fun to drive. Never had a problem with it until 30k miles then I had to put a new motor in it. I'll be going to the 5.0 next time this truck kind of put a damper on the ecoboost for me. But if you go with the ecoboost I would definitely recommend intercooler upgrade and a catch can I'm pretty sure the condensation is what made my last motor go bad

I HAVE NOTHING TO ADD BUT WHY DO YOU CAPITALIZE ecoboost?
