Ebay/Amazon keys
Are those cheap keys OK to buy? I only got one key with the truck, and there is a big ri$k if it gets lost. I heard if they have to come to your truck and make a key it could be hundreds, plus possibly waiting a few days.
I would definitely buy 2, at least one should program. At least I will have a spare. Some users complain about range, not really an issue.

there's about a 50/50 success rate of those working in my experience. Just a little heads up, some places with how expensive some key cutters are(ours where i am was over 6 grand) don't be surprised if they aren't willing to cut your key for you unless they supply it
I only got one key with my truck when bought used. I got 2 OEM Ford keys (key only, no FOB head) from ebay, and got them programed into the truck with a friend with ForScan. It takes 2 keys otherwise. Then I bought seperate aftermarket FOBs, pretty cheap, 2 for $10 and programed myself.
I can post links if you need them.

The basic keys ought to be available for very little from a dealer or locksmith. They should have the NFC chip for the PATS system. Like this, but I think they are not much more, plus cutting, at a dealer.
This is the key I got years ago. Its an OEM Ford key with the RFID chip imbedded. Our trucks can "recognize" 8 different RFID chipped keys at a time. It takes 2 keys to program new keys DIY, but new keys can also be done with ForScan if you or a friend have it. I have gotten new keys cut before from local Lowes, Home Depot, Ace, locksmith. Sometimes free, sometimes for a fee, sometimes buy their blank, cut your your blank.

They all seem to be using the same chip, some users report it can't be programmed.

Also - if you have anyone else do programming, make sure they are not simply cloning your one key. If you clone a key, you still only have 1 key, if that makes sense. The dealer, or FORScan, makes each key unique. This allows you to program additional keys yourself. Having 2 keys, one a clone of the other, doesn't.
When we bought our Mach-E, the GM (my salesperson) had the Parts dept cut my two purchased keys for my 2013 F-150 for free, no problem.
This is important to note - you can't program a key unless you have two keys, or use FORScan, or the dealer.
