Default Driving Lights in Bumper

I've been reading through the forum since I purchased by new 13 XLT and have read a lot of good information.

I am looking for some driving lights for in the bumper. They have to be DOT approved for street use so that seems to eliminate most of the LED lights. They also have to fit in the lower opening either side of the license plate (which I have to keep).

The PIAA 410 look like they will work. I did see one photo of them installed on at F150 but they didn't have the front plate. Has anyone else used these?

Does anyone have any suggestion of other small driving light that are DOT approved and would fit in the bumper?

Thanks.

Good information. I was going to do Rigid LEDs in the same spot but if they are not legal I won't get them.

I'm was considering these round lights as a less expensive but effective alternative.

The space between the bumper pads and the license plate is about 4 inches but I wanted to leave room for cooling, since halogens burn hot and the pads are plastic. Round 3.5 inch lights should work and would match the round fog lamps in the bumper.

I also considered tucking the license plate back up into the opening and moving the lights a bit forward of the license plate. This would still satisfy the VC requirement for a front license plate (CA) and would allow a 4 inch light, and there are more choices in that size.

The Rigid LEDS would fit and wouldn't generate as much heat but the PIAA setup is rated brighter (lumens).

I've seen the PIAA 410 setup and it looks OK. No information about the heat issue but the 410s are the lights I'm putting in there. If heat is a problem, I'll post the info.

I'm not sure what the laws are like in the USA but I'm in Canada and the local RCMP and vehicle inspection units are strict on this. If the lights aren't DOT approved they need to be covers with opaque covers when on the highway.
