Maybe with any luck Ford has changed vendors for this part and it is better built than the 2010 original part....... fingers crossed.....I am a certified masted mechanic but I still have no desire to gut my whole truck to address this in the future.....

I hear you and agree but if you have to keep the truck then you are stuckwith paying for it otherwise. I have the manual HVAC so mine aren't as badsince I don't have the lower D/S actuator which is a big PITA, but I willsay if I find out that about every 30,000 miles this will be an issue then Iwill rig the system so I can have a manual override if need be!

Gone are the good days of the cables... you use to have a cable thatcontrolled all moving components,,, accelerator, choke, vents, heater and soon,,, now everything is electronic made of cheap plastic and nylon. In all the28 years being a mechanic I can remember replacing one or two HVAC cables outof all of the vehicles I worked on. but when I was wrapping up that career, mostly because of computer control I started replacing many of these typeactuators controllers. I am not sure if the actuators are the main problem ornot. I know they have had to replace the actual internal door also and if thatdoor is flexing or dragging it may be wearing out the actuators and being thatthere isn't much room to resize (redesign) a bigger stronger actuatorthen it will continue to burn them out!

Ford isn't the only one, they are just like the rest,,, when they issue afaulty system the only way they redesign a component is when they are forced toby a recall. Other than that once it goes out the door they could care lesswhat happens to it as they are more concerned about the next years production. That is the norm but again, even something as simple as a faulty design in thethird brake light that leaked,, they never fixed it in the next yearsproduction and this went on even to this day when I read of 2013's having theissue,, the only thing I can say is that it doesn't happen as often as it didin the 2010 to 2011 years!

My blend door actuator went out this last winter on my 2000 F-150....at least it lasted 14 years and 164,000miles.......and I did not have to remove the seats and entire dash to replace it..... I have only had this truck 1 month.....good thing it was "certified pre-owned" with the warranty.....

I wouldn't complain on the 2000 either! I truly think it is more of a internal door problem than the actuator. I think it is binding on the inside which is putty much added stress on the actuators. I wouldn't doubt that the 2000 actuator are somewhat similar and lasting 100,000 miles wouldn't be that big of a problem. The only one you have to worry about it the LH actuator as that is the PITA one, the others are pretty easy to do and only require you removing the glove box or the center bezel.
