I see you did the door handles as well, was that painted or did you swap them completely?

I just painted them using plastidip. Went well, after....3 years it started peeling at the door handle pulls so I pulled it off right there.

Default painted speaker grilles

Pulled the speaker grille off with a small flat head screwdriver. be delicate not to bend the grille. after i popped the 2 tabs out on the back side (near the door jamb) i was able to remove the rest by hand. I did 2 LIGHT coats of Krylon satin black spray paint on the front. 2 LIGHT coats on the back. Finished with 2 more LIGHT coats on the front. So, 4 coats front and 2 coats back. sprayed from 6-8 inches away and let sit for at least 10 minutes between each coat. Let dry for 1.5 hours before reinstalling on truck. Was able to reinstall by hand by being delicate and just popping the tabs back into place. very easy do it yourself job that take little time at all and got done for $5. amazing how much better it looks than the gray, rusted/pitted speaker grilles. wish i did this sooner.

@McLovin i just noticed in your pic you have the 6x8 rockford fosgates in your door. i am just about to order those for mine as well! had a question for you. did you get the wire adapter for the speaker and the ford harness? i am seeing Metra adapters for sale on amazon but reading the reviews it appears the there might be some reverse polarity problems. not with all of their adapters but with enough that it makes me a little leery. if you used an adapter for those speakers can you point me in the direction of which ones you picked up? thanks man! glad we got to talkin!

So I had the adapters for mine, I hated them! They would always wiggle loose no matter how tight I squeezed them, I didn’t want to cut the pigtail off of the factory harness, so what I did is I got wire taps and used them and yes it looks ugly, but one knee sees it behind the door panel!

These are the speakers and harnesses I got. Two sets of each for both front and rear doors. I was a little surprised when I pulled the factory speakers out. I was expecting them to be made in Mexico, nope, made in China.
I also didn’t want to cut the factory harness so I plugged the adapters into factory wiring and soldered the wires to the speakers. They were in fact improperly phased. I haven’t had any issues with the plugs coming loose though.
sound quality is a thousand times better.
BTW, the door panels do need to come off to replace the speakers.

Quick update, just out the first coat on. Went with rust-oleum semi gloss and matte clear. Got the first cost of the black on now

The before

Not sure how they all got so rusty looking though

Tears weren’t as bad

Probably the worst one

Not bad, but wanted them all the match

First coat down, about 6-8 inches away fro the spray, if you paint them make sure you get the edges almost missed them on the first coat.
