Default Door Rattle Source FOUND!

I have had door rattles in my truck since the day I bought it. I brought it into Ford TWICE and they say oh we found this or that. I think it's complete BS and seriously doubt they even pulled the panel because driving out of the lot it's still there. So I was on a mission to find the cause and I think I did!

First I removed the panel and the removed the speaker. I installed dynamat type material along the edge of the speaker opening to stop any rattles that may come from the speaker rattling against the doors inner skin. That didn't fix it.

Then I took some foam tape and lined the inside of ever hook on the panel where it slides into the under door skin, that seamed to help a tiny bit but still getting the rattle.

Next I put some of the Dynamat type material on the edge of the holes that the door panel slides and didn't do anything.

Then i put some where the the the metal brackets are that you screw the panel to. That did nothing also.

Then put some of the material on the outter door skin as well as randomly in the back side of the panel itself. That to did nothing.

Getting sick and tired of all this I decided I was to take it apart once again and not put it back together until I found the issue. Well I think I did!

The big pocket along the bottom of the panel is held on by plastic welds, it turns out that almost every single weld was loose and when certain bass frequencies would hit it would cause the panel to vibrate and rattle. Ended up cutting the head off the tab as low as I could and installed some big headed small screws in place. Put some superglue on the screws before installing them then put sound deadening material over it once I was finish. I have not noticed the rattle since I did this. I still want to go and remove all the panels once again to fix them all but so far the front passenger side which was the biggest source of the rattle has been good!

Sorry didn't take any pictures but can once info the other panels!

So, was the rattle when you turned up the music, or while driving?

It was almost always caused by the stereo but would rattle at times just going down the road. The type of music didn't make a difference, it would make the rattle even during a phone call through the speakers.

This isn't related to yours. On my last truck I outlined the door panel and then ran the soft side of Velcro all the way around the door frame. Basically the velro was between the door and the panel. It snugged up a 6 yr old panel nicely.

Mine is rattling round the arm rest on the drivers side it's so annoying. Gotta pull it apart. If you push against the arm rest it goes away.

I had a rattle recently too, lasted over a week until I could investigate. It was extremely sensitive to any tiny tiny bump in the road. It didn't even need a bump, it seemed even the wind caused it to rattle endlessly.

I had new speakers installed a couple months back and that's when it started, so I knew either they installed something loose or didn't put the door panel on correctly.

It turned out when they connected my new speakers, because they spliced (which was my request anyways) instead of using a harness, and instead of clipping the old plastic comnection off, they just spliced it down the line and left the connection attached and it had enough slack to constantly bang and tap inside the door panel. I ended up duct taping the bejesus out of it to the panel to keep it from moving.

That one rattle for that short amount of time was making me insane.

Glad you sorted out the rattle...I've got one too on the drivers door. Seems to be the armrest and near the lock. Don't have a trim tool so I haven't taken the door apart but it is driving me crazy. Getting hard to put pressure via elbow for a length of time. Where can i get a trim tool to remove the panel? how much for one of those gadgets run?
