Default Does the truck need to be reprogrammed if I replace the tailgate?

I need to replace my entire tailgate with camera and my local dealer says that the truck will need to be reprogrammed. I knew that this was true if you didn't already have a camera but if it does, is there a reason it would need it?

Factory camera and factory nav..

Haven't had any reason to do so but there actually is a rear video cam configuration procedure, see attached screen shot from my IDS (same tool the dealer uses)

I will go thru the procedure on my truck tomorrow just to see what's what.

Will report results as I get them.

The RVC configuration must be performed when replacing the camera to calibrate the guidelines.

So the dealer is correct. It shouldn't cost more then $50.

I didnt have to on mine...It always seems to say to recalibrate the computer to the newest Ford calibration anytime you replace a dang bolt on these things. I think its just a way to charge for an update. Look at every tsb and see what they say..lol

You can change the cam with out reprogramming, however the two "wheel lines" displayed when backing up may not be correct as the IDS calibrates the lines to match the tires

Exactly, it's up to you if you want your system operating as designed.

Nothing to report here, it's a blind update more or less, you start the procedure turn key on and wait a few secs and it tells you it's completed.

The most I got was a VCM software update.
