Default does cat-back improve shift points on 5.0 or decrease???

For those of you that have installd cat back systems on the 5.0, does it have a negative effect on the shift points? I don't suppose anyone experienced better shift points ie: longer rpms b/w shifts. Previously, on my 06' Dakota, the cat back magnaflow system caused quicker shifts at lower rpms. I would like to install a roush system but, not if it negatively affect the shift points. I would like more rpms b/w shift points.

Thanks in advance for you input!

Lance

Get a tune. You are giving too much credit to a cat back system.

Tune will drastically affect your shift points, a catback will not.

I can only imagine it would SOUND like it might affect it because you can better hear the vehicle after a catback install but the exhaust pulses wont affect shifting whatsoever.

changing exhaust has absolutely no affect on shift points, only changing the shift points with a tune will affect shift points.

so here is my take on the situation.
on your dodge, the stock exhaust was probably pretty restrictive, so by adding a freer flowing cat back, it added enough power that you didnt need to use as much pedal to get up to speed, and in turn this created what appeared to you as an early upshift.

the stock muffler on the 5.0's is a straight through design and aside from being big and heavy, its a very well designed setup. there really is not much to be gained from a cat back if your truck is fairly stock. the only benefit is much better sound.

Transmissions now are controlled electronically, back in the day they were vacuum operated and "could" affect shirt points/pressure......not the case today.
