As with any v8 or larger engine from not long ago.

Doesn't sound like Norcal's V10 did too bad on the highway. (comment above yours)

I think in a 35' motor home you could watch the fuel gauge drop with any gas engine in it...

However, I missed the versatility of a truck (with a bed) which made launching and retrieving a boat so much easier; so I traded it in on a new Black 2004 F-250 XLT Screw (V-10) which I kept for nearly five years, until I traded it on my current 2009 F-150 Screw.

BTW, with the V-10, on the freeway and with cruise control, I consistently got 16 mpg. on trips from NorCal down to L.A. on I-5; but it was more like 10-12, around town. However, both units pulled my beautiful 1997 21' Mariah-Shabah, like it wasn't even there.

Today, I do like the ride, handling, and maneuverability of the F-150 far better than the F-250; wherein, the F-150 meets/exceeds all of my current needs in a truck.

Now, I am really looking forward to the new '13, with an EB!
U had both the two valve v10s the three valve with the five speed was waaayyyy faster

He has a small boat, maybe 3000 lbs towed weight and was surprised at how the Z71 struggled compared to his Excursion.
So did he buy a 2500 or 3500 Chevy? Gas?

If he bought a half ton Chevy, of course it won't pull as nice as a heavy duty does..... And has no one to blame but himself for cheaping out on a smaller truck.

All this post is going to do is get the Ford fanbois wound up.

Lots of missing information in this post.

That seems like the point of the post... and well... this is an F150 based forum so I'd guess there's not much here other than "fanboys" in one respect or another.

Tell him to get it tuned. The newer Chevy's are great trucks, and the Vortec series of engines are nearly bulletproof. The only con to the newer Chevy's in my experience, is the factory transmission tune. It pretty much sucks and makes towing with one almost miserable. A good tune will firm up the shifts and adjust the shift points to make it much more fun to drive, and more effective at towing.

I would not be disappointed with a new Ford or Chevy right now. Both are good trucks.

They are not that bad, the 35' with two full slides cruises right along at 70, now the chassis needs a little help but not to much.

Diesel pushers are great but you will spend twice as much to purchase one, spend a ton on mait., and most will have a hard time working on the motor and systems. Now with the V10 F53 chassis, it is super easy to work on, parts are eveywhere for it and the chassis is fairly basic. Most barkyard wrenches will have no problems keeping them on the road.

The 35' cost a cool $27,000 with 49,000 miles on the ticker and looked brand new. You can't touch a same size DP for that.

And yes, it sucks fuel but I am in it to enjoy and for my family to travel in comfort. Still way cheaper than flying and staying in a hotel!

Right to have a 35' diesel motor home you need to use it every weekend and go on long trips to justify the cost. Otherwise short maybe one time a month gas is fine. I'm thinking of getting a new ford transit van with a diesel and making it into a rv.

Hell, for me to justify dropping the type of money required to get into a diesel pusher I'd have to be living in it!
