No, just a new rub mark since installing.

Thanks

I do the same thing with some white lithium grease.

However in my experience slamming the tailgate shut actually stops it from squeaking.

I'm installing a DeeZee lift assist in the next few weeks and am disappointed to hear of the issues with the nutsert but found a video with another possible solution although I can't find it now.

He drilled another round hole right beside the original oblong hole and then installed the nutsert in there and claims it works perfectly.

I was also wondering if it would work to drill a hole beside the oblong hole and then tap a thread into it and then tighten the ball into that with lock-tite and totally eliminate the nutsert.

The best permanent and easiest way is to take the tailgate panel off. Then put a nut with locktite on it and then forget about.

I'm going on 4 years with working out of my truck everyday. Which means the tailgate is opened at least 4 times. Still rock solid.

I was very curious how ford designed their easy down tailgate on the new generation. I couldn't believe it was the same damn thing, just hidden under the taillight.

So your suggesting to just drill a hole and push the threaded portion of the ball through and put a nut on from the inside ?

No, he means, take the tailgate access panel out. Put lock-tite on the ball joint threads, reach in thru the access panel, and secure the ball joint from the inside with a washer and nut using the existing hole.

I've removed the stripper pole and plastic cover and there's no access panel to reach in thru other than a small hole that's too far away to reach anything, so am I missing something obvious here ?

Actually you're not wrong.
We've all had to wrap a screwdriver or anything that will reach the hole with duct or masking tape. Something that's sticky enough to hold the nut while you push it against the hole.

It sounds way more difficult than it turned out to be. I put the Locktite on the bolt and the nut. Then just held the flat head screwdriver on the flat of the nut while tightening it.
Maybe someone used something stickier to hold the nut..

Thanks masitile, I found this post on Youtube and I think I'm gonna go this route. Seems logical that it'll work better with the proper sized round hole.
