That's another very good point payment terms have gotten longer, 72/84mths is standard around here in Alberta, it's crazy 7 years into a truck and still paying for it. They finance used ones on the same terms 2 year old truck over 7 years is crazy. Extend the term nobody notices they $7k jump in sticker price. I sure don't get a $2k pay raise seems like each job I take it's less and less, lost all our OT happy to have work these days we don't push for things like we used to, wish the bosses would ask us to stay late, before would be sneaking out the back door so we could leave on time. I don't mean to be ranting but I think sometimes we take for granted what we have.

When I was looking at the 16 one of the comments from the sales guy was is that my truck was outside of warranty and now and puts me at risk it's not reliable. since when is a two year old vehicle not considered not reliable or we need to trade it in. As long as people are willing to pay they will keep selling at crazy prices. I saw a King Ranch stickered at $72k in the show room and I laughed could get a one-ton for less that maybe not a new one now i have heard they went up too.

I just wonder how sustainable the whole thing is. I mean...in order to keep our economies going we need to consume.... Couple that with job losses in the middle class and I wonder just how long it will be before none of us can afford a new truck simply because I don't make the kind of money I need to in order to buy new.
The credit crunch is going to hit the economy like a ton of bricks. The car lots around here are full, and trucks still bringing new loads in, just like they did in 08. The big 3 still believe they can make as many as they can make and they'll find buyers for them. They have large rebates, easy financing (no money down, no credit check) and they've got a bunch of sub prime loans again. Companies have been buying their own stock back at inflated prices to give the shareholder some kind of value, with money the fed is GIVING to them. Student loans are in default (wouldn't you like to be the parent of some kid in hock for 60k for taking classes in underwater basket weaving) with the big banks holding most of the loans.
Better pay off what you can now.

[QUOTE=tjm623;5085663]2.7L supercrew 4x4. The 4K extra is actually a sweet deal when you factor in what an '14 xlt vs a '16 sport have in extras.

things I now have: nav, console shifter, sync 3, twin moon roof, heated seats, NO CHROME , remote start...the list goes on of new things. I'd imagine a '16 XLT and I'd have paid about 4-6k less! Actually might have made a few k lol[/QUOTE

Glad you got a good deal. Hope the truck treats you well.

I don't think you could trade a two year old truck on a similarly equipped new one and make money, though. Something would be up in that scenario...

i did find find a 2016 similarly equipped to the 2013 I had for $34k after rebates. The 2013 was $32. So that's not a terrible jump. Still, you'd think prices have to sort of level off somewhere. It'd be interesting to know the average new truck purchase price compared to ten years ago, along with the average wage now and ten years ago.

Well everything I have is paid off now, house included. I guess I need to wait for the cheap truck fallout after the economy collapses. Of course, I probably won't have a job if the economy collapses... Danggit! Lol

i agree on wages and price. I didn't get a price on a '16 XLT only the sport I bought, I was referencing that if I got my sport for 36 I'd imagine I could have gotten an XLT for possibly 32-34? Maybe less not really sure. The rebates on these trucks really are crazy at this time of year

I haven't had a car loan since I was in my early twenty's- That was like 40 years ago. Maybe if you folks can't afford the asking price, you should re-assess what you should be driving?- Just a thought.

Not everyone is as fortunate as you, did you pay cash for your house too?

Loans are smart if you play them smart. Why capitalize all of my money when I can use someone elses for free or next to free.

I was offered $14k for my truck while getting the vacuum assist pump replaced under warranty.

Granted I'm at nearly 140k miles now, the miles seem to be a trade-in killer. I'll keep driving it, I'm getting 0.43/mile to drive it for work, if I drive it another 32,000 miles I'll basically have the equivalent of what trade-in I was offered...

Did it occur to you that some of "us folks" might also be in our 20s? Why was it okay for you to have a loan 40 years ago at this age, but I should reevaluate my vehicle purchase? Sounds like flawed logic to me.

As another member said loans done in a responsible manner are not a bad thing at all. With most large purchases that offer it, my wife and I will take the 0% financing on an item and not pay a penny more than minimum for the full time period. Tell me how your paying cash for that same item is better?

Like you, I too have the cash on hand to make the purchase. Unlike you, I'd rather keep said cash in my pocket for a variety of reasons. Mainly, why give it to you now if it costs me the same....but you only want a little bit at a time instead?

Like the infomercial ovens of the 90s say..."I set it and forget it!", in regards to autopay. I might check the balance every couple months, but other than that I don't care and when it's done payments stop.

i suppose that credit card I have that pays for two flights a year is bad too? Instead of paying cash, I buy the same thing and get % back in my pocket that TRIPLES it's value for travel.

There are other ways of being "financially savvy" other than being "I paid for it with cash!" guy who frowns on all "us folks" because we use credit.
