Default Dealer Experience-MSRP help

Okay...so I have been reading up preparing for my dealer experience. I am looking for a F150 XLT. Finally gathered enough info and trucks that I liked to start test driving and playing with the dealers.
I have been reading that people should get approx. 10-12% off MSRP. From this I am including rebates from FORD, currently 6000K. So I asked the dealer to come off MSRP ($36xxx) for about 4,000 (between 10-12% MSRP) or to around $325xx negotiated vehicle selling price.....well he actually laughed at me? Am I crazy for asking this much off MSRP before Rebates from FORD? We left and I told him my offer of 325xx selling price was good and that I would take all the 6K rebate + my trade in if he came down. Am i CRAZY?????

BTW: the dealer made the counter offer at $338XX. We got to see the xplan price on the invoice and it said $333XX. We just walked out.

so 325xx before rebates...im not reading this right...if thats the case then you take the 6k off for rebates putting it at 26xxx selling price...thats about right...I think thats a fair offer because it is close to what was done for me prior to trade, TTL...

MSRP= 36,xxx. I asked 32,5xx before rebates (reasonable offer), with 6K ford disc.= 265xx selling price. Does not include TTL or trade-in credit.

1) What year are we talking about 09 or 10?

2)What is the invoice listed for the truck?

If you were going for a '10, it may be hard to get this price, but an '09 you shouldn't have issues on the asking price.

Example. Purchased my '06 towards the end of '06 after '07 had been on the lot for a little while. My XLT MSRP was $37,xxx. After all was said and done, prior to TTL, I got it for between $27K & $28K.

where are you getting 6 grand factory rebates? And I still think its a bit early to be asking 4k discount from the dealer. I give it another week or two and our dealer will be taking around 3k off msrp, on the 09s.
I know of 5k factory rebates, and right now were throwing in about a 2-25k discount depending on how long weve had the truck

I've gotten online quotes from two different dealership one for a 2010 and one for a 2009 both came in at $1000 over invoice. This is before a face to face chew down but a good place to start IMO. See if i can get em to throw in a free bedliner

There just doesn't seem to be all that many Screws on the lots for the dealers to be motivated in my area.

Currently I'm only seeing 4k in rebates for 09 and 2k for the 2010.

this is 2009. The Midwest FORD Dealers Association has up to 6K cash back on 2009 F150 SuperCab and SuperCrew XLT's. These are from memory: 1500 XLT Bonus, 1500 Customer Cash, 1000 Financing Credit, 1000 Ford Loyalty, 1000 Additional Customer Bounus Cash. There is also a 500 student or military credit!!!

Quickly: according to edmunds.com the Invoice is $32,8xx. They showed xplan invoice at $33,xxx, but this was a print out and not the official "invoice" so it could have been doctored

This is the problem I ran into. I'm in MD with several dealerships within a 30min drive...no one could find the truck I wanted anywhere close. They ended up 'trading' with a dealer in NJ for what I wanted, which didn't leave me a lot of room to haggle. That and trucks are selling lot hot cakes around here..so good luck, hope they come down for you

If you have access to a Costco, their Auto Buying Program is pretty good.

On a '10 Lariat, the 1st dealer wanted $400 over invoice, Costco price.

When I mentioned to the 3rd dealer that I had a Costco price, they went to the back and printed out an offer at invoice, no haggling, no argument.

The Costco price would be a good starting point.
