Dealer damaged...

If they take it to a good place, you would never be able to tell the difference between a PROPERLY re finished wheel, and a brand new one.

just remember that paint on the wheels is a flat/matte with no clearcoat. Ask me how I know... NTB gouged a wheel and let them have a well regarded place in St Louis MO refinish. .. NTB bought me a new wheel after I saw their job. Maybe on a standard clear/paint but ap wheels are a different animal.

I too had a tire installer recently destroy all 4 of my wheels when mounting my BFG All Terrains. I had them re-finished (at their expense of course) and now they look better than OEM, much brighter polish than before...near perfect finish in my opinion.

As stated above, let them try this to make it right. Inspect well when you get it back, and make sure this is noted with your service file with the dealership incase of future issues with the wheel
Also, I'd thank the service manager for being an honest guy. They are few and far between these days. Honesty gets my business every time.

No, I buy most of my vehicles in Oklahoma, dealers there are just more well trained and all around easier to deal with when it comes to buying. This particular dealer has what I'd consider the absolute worst sales force.. The service dept has to be the best in town though, maybe they have to make up for the poor purchasing experience on the backside.
Pretty much sums up my sentiment about the ordeal. Routine warranty work has turned into this..
Yes, all 4 will be done. I just hope they do as good a job as y'all speak of.. The service manager mentioned this particular refinisher has cleaned up poorly cared for polished rims you'd think had no second chance at life.
This is the drivers rear, probably the worst:
I worry about these appearance package rims also, they scratch just looking at them wrong.. Needless to say you have to baby them unfortunately. I was worried from the minute they had to take them off to get at the brakes.
I hope when I see the truck, she looks factory good
I've been impressed with some of the wheel refinishing jobs that I've seen. I'm assuming that they're doing all 4 - so that they match. Update with a pic when done, I'd like to see the finished product. I'm dreading tire replacement, because I'm a touch OCD with those rims. I'll check again, but I recall dealer cost being in the $600-$700 range for one rim.

Hopefully they do a good job on them and it lasts as long as the OEM finish.
I have the previous generation FX4 wheels. One of my wheels was refinished by a wheel repair shop and looked perfect. That only lasted for a year and a couple months before the clearcoat started peeling. Of course it only had a 1yr warranty.
Now a few months later, almost all of the paint has peeled completely off down to bare aluminum. The other 3 untouched wheels still look good. I'm going to try to have it redone next year after the weather warms up.

Get it powder coated. You literally can't remove the stuff even if you try... Sandblasting will barely scratch.

Thanks guys. I'll give it a go, the service manager is probably the most brutally honest I have ever come across, just wish we would have consulted me before reaching this conclusion. The service manager reassured me it was better than factory and that we where both to be satisfied before I retook possession...

Bummer about the damage. Hopefully, the restoration exceeds your expectations.
