Default Dashboard cubbie

Sorry, but I do not have a picture of it, but I'm sure many of you know what I'm going to be referring to. I have a 2013 F150 with the factory trailer controller on the drivers side of the dash. On the other side there is a hole for something. Not sure what this can be used for, but looking for mod suggestions. Looking for maybe an iPad mount or GPS mount or something like that. Or maybe others have done something really useful with this space and can suggest a use for it. Thanks in advance!

I have never liked stuff attached to the windshield. Looks bad. You can't see through it and its easy for the thieves to see so they can steal it.
The nav systems are expensive as oe and they will always need updating. That cost me $179 for my wife's Infiniti. I choose to use my TomTom because of the way the mount can fit inside the cubby hole. The TomTom works great there and is as easy to see as the oe unit. Stays there all the time. The little red button is my garage door opener.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm mainly interested in an iPhone holder or an iPad holder. Anyone done that before?

P.S. I already have plenty of ammo storage in my truck.

I always hate taking my eyes off the road to look down at anything.

While it is usually illegal to mount anything to the windshield (per CA CVC, e.g.) unless it is out of direct view of the road, GPSes/et al should always be mounted near your line-of-site. A good GPS like a Garmin will have a quick-release clip to stash the unit in the console. (and if you're just running into the store real quick, when you disconnect a Garmin, it asks "would you like to run on battery power or shut off?" Click "stay on", and that way it doesn't have to initialize and find satellites all over again when you get back)

Just sayin'...

You are allowed a 5x5 area in the lower right hand corner for gps according to cvc. It may have changed since I learned the section, but it will rarely be enforced.

I've seen this thread. I was looking for a mod for an iPad mount; that was the purpose of this thread. Thanks for sharing the link though.

I did it from my phone and it ended up being the name of the thread. I think if you click it, it should bring you to the guy who did a mount that you could do for an iPad, maybe mini. :-)

You are absolutely right! On both counts. But, there is a reason for the law, which is really for the good of the driver and anyone else on the road (not to block vision).

That's all...

My main point was that who (in their right mind) wants to take their eyes off the road to look DOWN at a GPS and reconnoiter their position and the other information on the relatively tiny screen whilst driving? How long does it take to veer into another lane or run into someone who stopped short in front of you? (YIKES!)
