Default Custom 3rd brake light

I'm looking to customize my 3rd brake light paint the inside. Has anyone baked and been able to open the light without cracking it. Looking for any advice

I've heard it's a real *** pain to separate the light without it breaking. I don't know if it's an option you'd be interested in, but I taped off my brake light and used VHT Nightshade on mine. Here are some before/after pics.

That's backwards isnt it? Dont you want the cargo lamps at their full potential? I would have masked everything except the cargo lamps

I don't ever use/need the cargo lamps. I do however want people to see when I am stopping...hence not tinting the brake light portion. Enough light still comes out of the cargo light sides to see in the bed at night if I need them. It's only 3 coats of VHT. The main reason for tinting the 3rd brake light is all that dang white/chrome. It was the only white/chrome on my truck and would annoy me to death. LOL.

Plus, you can always put in bed lights.

Recon's third brake light is popular, but seems to have a lot of mixed reviews.

I had the same desire as yourself, you can't do it. It appears the lens on the 3rd brakelight is sonic welded, no amount of baking will soften any adhesive. There is a member on here that cut the back of the light off, did his mods, and resealed it.
Myself, after trying anyway to separate it, [broke it all to hell], I wound up with a Raptor Recon unit. The cargo lights are useless, but I don't like them anyway, so I'm happy.

I separated mine a few years back .. it wasn't easy but it wasn't hard either..

I actually sanded the chrome and spray tinted it I to a darker chrome using vht if I remember correctly.. I also added led strips cut into 3 led as well.

Sorry no pics ... I have in the last year replaced all with recon ..

I say go for it .. If it fails.. its not too expensive to replace

I would like to do this but make the cargo lights really push out some light.

To each his own I guess. I need ultra bright cargo lamps
