Here's the reason - you find a truck you want on the dealer's lot. The daeler knows they have you - odds are that exact truck won't be anywhere else, especially as you get to the higher end models.

Or, you place an ORDER with the dealer - and the dealer refuses to negotiate on price. No problem! You take the order to the other Ford dealer an hour down the road. He won't negotiate either? Go to a different one. Eventually you'll find one that will deal.

Although in my case as soon as the dealer realized I was serious about going somewhere else, they caved in and gave me the price I wanted on the XLT.

As for another reason for XLT over FX4? Money. When I got my XLT, the FX4 base price was something like $3,000 more and it had $2,500 less in rebates.
There were only a few key features I really needed (not wanted) so I was able to find a few xlt's within about 30miles.... I ended at galpin. They were kinda up a creek when they counter offered and I would give them a instant quote fresh from a competitor on my smart phone...lol

lol I definetly took it into mind when buying my truck, definetly would love a fx4 with a column shift. I find the console shift is just in the way for anything. its probably not but its not where its supposed to be on a truck IMO

I have a Lariat with bucket seats.. Road head can be accomplished just fine. The only question is how much does your g/f like you? Is it enough to deal with the console or not... if you single it will all depend how good your game is. hahah get the FX4
