Well maybe it's not freezing.

I checked my thermostat with my Fluke meter just to be sure. I have not had a problem with reduced air flow or freezing but notice I said that when driving on the highway, my temperatures still go back up to 40 degrees.

So we took the donor truck back on the road, experienced the reduced air an slight warm up after an hour.

Turned the compressor off, fan on and ran it for about 2 minutes when the normal fan speed returned. Turned compressor back on and temps below 40 and normal fan speed returned.

A hassle, yes, but a work around since ford says everything is normal!

Just another data point for what is possible. We're getting another good whack here in the furnace. This picture was taken after a 15 minute drive, fan on middle setting, recirc air. Temp was still gradually ticking down.

The last time I saw this test was on the way home from the dealer with a "full charge/ in spec operation". That day the best it could muster after a 20 min drive was 54.

So just long enough for the cab to start warming up?

Is anybody logging cab temps when this happens?

Pull your thermometer out of the vent, give it a quick rub to speed up the warming, and record can temps.

Actually, just long enough for the air to blow warm and you could tell fan speed was increasing. So yes the cab would be warming since ac was technically off.

update and rant

My truck will blow sub 40 until the cab cools down, then the temps slowly start to rise. It gets to the point when it's above 50 and it's like really Ford? Let me control the temp by adjusting the blend door if I want it warmer. I hate some computer telling me "heh your cab is cool enough damnit, time to warm it up".

Just wondering, for those that have used a resistor and have had the long drive failure, is your suction line wrapped? Just wondering if it's getting too cold could be thwarted by not wrapping the suction line?
