2009 F150 Platinum
this makes me want to put these in my truck, but I dont know if I drive enough night miles to justify them. I put some Silverstars (not sure if they were Ultras or not) in my wifes old car last year and one them had gone out in like 6 months right about the time we sold the car and got my truck. That is a huge improvement. Almost worth 50 a year to have them in atleast the low beams.

I had and have a pair of the regular silvers stars, in the last truck and this one. Big improvement over stock, 30-40% is the claim and I believe it. Last set of regular silver stars...atleast 7 years on 03' f150. We'll see how these ones do...

Installed Today
I installed mine today and drove tonight. They do make a difference. My wife noticed that she could see wider and farther down the right side of the road. High beam is noticeably improved.
As for installation it helps if you have an extra set of hands (teenager works well). First remove the plastic screw that secures the rubber flap near the light. DON"T LOSE IT! Next, loosen the two bolts on top of the headlight and one on the middle down the side (three total). Now, pull straight out. It will take quite a bit of muscle as there are two expansion clips that have to come out with the assembly. Once the assembly is removed just unplug the headlight bulb and rotate the bulb counter clockwise to remove it. You may need a tool to do so (I used a pair of channel locks opened up to gently twist on the ears). Reinstall in reverse. Total time 10-15 minutes and that is if you have to go get a different tool.

2008/H13 Wait. What?
9145 is about 5 watts brighter than the 9140 Wait again. What again?
===========================
Anyways, has anyone compared the new Silverstar Ultras (I heard they have one year warranty) to the Phillips X-treme?
Thanks

The part number for the headlight bulbs is 9008/H13. Be sure the package says Sylvania Silverstar Ultra on it. The OEM bulb is a 9140. The 9145 is not available in the Sylvania Silverstar Ultra, but the Sylvania Silverstar 9145 matches the headlights close enough to suit me. The 9145 is the same socket and form factor as the 9140, but about 5 watts more power. I have not had any problem with the lens melting.
I did not include any replacement instructions in my original post, because there is a good write-up with pictures in the truck owner's manual (about page 89).
