Just got the truck back from the dealer. They found a problem with the throttle body and replaced it. So I will keep my fingers crossed and hope all is good now.

I would bet it does. The wrench light almost ALWAYS means that the communication between the gas pedal electronics and throttle body electronics has been interrupted or lost communication somehow. Usually simply turning off the truck and back on will allow it to "re-pair" itself and will continue to work fine. My 2005 F-150 did that once and turning it off and back on fixed it.

Sounds like they at least got the part to replace correct. I'm sure you will be fine now

Good to hear, and I hope that was the cause of the rough idle with command start. I will have to check out that dealership over the one I have been going to and see if they can look up your issue as a precedent.

Thanks for the posts!

I'm also from Winnipeg (seriously no joking) and I've had the same issue on my 2013. It happened a couple of times last year with no command start. I started it with the key and it started fine. When I came back like 10 minutes later the wrench light was on and rough idea. Restarting it cleared it. I took it to the dealer (River City) and they couldn't find any stored codes. I was told to bring it in again if it came on. It only happed once more but I couldn't get it there.

This year I had the factory command start installed. Today stated it with the remote and when I when out same thing. Not thinking I shut it off so I'm sure it cleared the code.

WPGFORD did you get yours fixed? And what was it?

WPGF150 did your fix work?

WOW

Also from Winnipeg, with a 2014 F150 with 6500 KMs and the 5.0 V8. This is exactly what happened on Sunday morning when I was getting ready for work. Only exception is I do not have command start. It was -30 Celsius that morning and the truck was plugged in all night.

I went out with the dog, started the truck fine. Cleaned it off, got the dog back in and got in the truck. I was about to put it in reverse when the wrench came on and the idle went really rough. I restarted the truck and I had to crank it for about 6 seconds. When it started, the wrench and rough idle were gone.

It is going to Mid-town Ford on Thursday for multiple things including: safety recall, losing coolant, poor heat that takes a long time to come and now this. Super pleased with my truck right now.

Anyone have anything to add? Hoping to go to the dealer with some solid idea of what has caused this problem for other people.

It hasn't happened again but I wonder if it is a bit of ice forming in the fuel lines. I could see that plugging an injector and kicking the truck into limp mode and shuts down that cylinder. When you restart the ice has melted and it restarts the cylinder.

Just a theory.

I'll break the chain, I'm from Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. 2012 5.0 and started it this morning - 5 degrees F(but 20 mph wind) let it idle just under 5 minutes and came outside to a rough idle and wrench code. Turned it off, started again and drove fine.
This seems like a cold start issue, do I need to bring it into the dealership(college kid on a budget here). PS 1000 miles out of warranty.

I'm happy to help, k7Gixxer. Can you please verify the current mileage on your truck? Your local dealer is best able to diagnose this; feel free to use this tool to get started.

Please keep me in the loop moving forward!
